Which would you grab?

I'd totally grab the Sig.

Not only does it have a light, but 21 rounds of 9mm 124 grain +P Gold Dots (a proven load used by NYPD etc. etc.)?

C'mon! It's a no brainer!!!!

You put ANY of those 21 shots of 9 em em in the RIGHT spot and the tango will be DRT. If you put ANY of the nine .45s in the WRONG spot, the tango will NOT be DRT!

I always seem to grab for the .45 over the 9mm when I have a choice, I'd wager instinct would have me grabbing the Colt.

Then again, picking up the Sig in the left hand seems like a pretty good idea too, just in case.

Those two guns only is way to limiting.

I keep two .38 S&Ws in my jacket or on me and a Uberti Walker close by. If by some freak I should miss with the walker the fire show should do the trick...if not I have five more chambers charged with 50 grains of FFF.

Simple answer

Whichever one you shoot better.

For me, that is a 1911, every day of the week.
YMMV.

If you have to ponder about which gun to grab, get rid of one of them.

I would grab the Colt. No disrespect to the Sig but I have never shot a Sig or used a tactical light. While it isn't a Colt I own a 1911 so I would grab the type of pistol I am most familiar with. I wouldn't want to be fumbling around with controls sorting out what does what when the chips are down.

Colt. But only because I like 45 acp. If that was a 227, I'd grab that for the extra ammo in 45. Either one will work fine.

This has been far more entertaining than I expected. FWIW, the Sig sits on the nightstand due to both capacity and the light. I have kiddos, so illuminating the threat is more important than identifying my position.

No home invasion yet, so the choice remains blissfully untested, but I'm leaning Sig. The Hornady loads are definitely snappy (Critical Duty, not Defense), so follow-up shots definitely favor the sig. Even with the hot GD's, the 226 is a pussy cat.

Those big .45 loads definitely thump, though......might give them on shot on the piggies next weekend.

Maybe I'll put the sig on the wife's side of the bed.......

My choice 1911. I shoot them better. If if 9 isnt enough then it probably wouldnt matter anyway. Id be dead by then. To get to either me or my kids in my house to have to go down a long hallway. If the invaders still keep coming after I'm empty there is always a fully loaded shotgun near by

One in each hand and that is a no brainer. Lighted one in the weak hand if possible, off to the side if at night/in darkness cuz that's my way.;) You should be able to use any SD firearm you own with either hand, in the dark and do it reliably/accurately IMHO.

The first gun my hand lands on, will be the one I utilize.

But if I have the time to evaluate the circumstances, and to pick my weapon of choice, I'm going to use a HD 12 ga. with 00 buck. Other wise it's going to be one of the wheel gun's that's on my hip every waking moment, or under my pillow when sleeping.

IF the .45 inspires more confidence, why would you need to think beyond this?

When under stress, you're going to fall back upon training & muscle memory more than conscious thought. Confidence will help boost your actions and will hopefully, give you a bit more edge to help win your fight.

I'd always go for a 1911 myself.

Shoot Sig better? You answered your own question. Besides, I don't have any SD ammo in 45.
Bullet capacity trumps every thing in a home invasion for me.

Yeah, but someone did say to shoot it to "slidelock".
That was me. Well, sort of. I didn't say "slidelock"; I said slide lock. Not sure if that generated the eye roll though.

I know that I would give up the style points for counting rounds to employ the SIG most expeditiously upon exhausting the Colt. :)

If they're "kicking the door in" you're inside.
Light should be no object if you are up and awake as you implied.

The .45 ACP Colt is the clear choice. The fact you mentioned it "inspires a more natural, confident hold".
Rule #1 with hardware; "you gotta have confidence in your equipment".

Not really wanting to start another yawn inducing .45 vs. 9mm thread, but given a home invasion, which would you grab & why?

If you have done the maintenance on that 1911, then either would likely be fine. However, the SIG has the advantages of the light rail with light and a larger capacity magazine. You may not need either, but you won't know that going into the fight.

So I'm sitting here watching my Spurs lose, and next to me I have these two. I ponder the front door kicked open, and wonder which I would grab.

Sounds like you're planning to leave one lying there for the bad guys to use.

Ask them which one they'd prefer, then take it and leave them the one they don't want!

The logical thing would be to reach for one of the pistols I rotate with CCW... but I'd probably open the desk drawer and go for the 1911.

As much as I love the 1911, I would go for the SIG. I've owned both and trust the SIG the most, JMHO.

I'll put a little different spin on it...if we're talking about a shooting, I'd use the Sig because I don't want my Colt impounded as evidence forever by my local PD.

Guess that's the reason I carry plastic money and plastic guns...if I lose either, be it to a robber or a justice system, both can be replaced much easier and cheaper than the good stuff (cash and Colts)
