Decisions decisions! So I'm finishing up a 300 blk build, so the next order of business is trying to decide what can to get. I have other firearms that I'd like to run as a host as well, but getting a true all in one is not really possible. I realize that eventually, to do everything I want to, I'm going to have to have two separate cans. The question is, what do I get first? Do I get a 30 cal rifle suppressor that I can also use on my .308 bolt gun, my ar's, and any other 30 cal or below center fire I wind up with, or do I get a 9mm pistol can that I can also use on my pistols and .22's?

I've been looking into quite a few suppressors lately. The effectiveness and versatility of the silencerco specwar 762 sound very appealing, and while I don't mind the length, 24 oz is pretty stinkin heavy to be hanging off the end of a barrel

The silencerco octane 9 is nice and light and would be nice for my pistols and such, but I'd be limited to subsonics only in the 300 blk. Bummer.

The liberty mystic is incredibly versatile. I can use it on my pistols, my .22's, my blackout with supers, my .223 (slow fire only), and my .308 with subsonics. Weight wise, it's right in between. I got to use one today on a 9mm at and a buckmark .22, and boy did I like it. I did notice the weight though

Right now I have found the best prices on the two silencerco cans, and the mystic is not too far behind. I know I'll eventually have to have one of each, but I just can't decide where to start. At least the paperwork is taking so long that by the time I finally get one, I'll probably have enough saved up for the other ;)

I have only used the mystic. Does anybody have any insight or experience with these other cans? Anybody running a similar setup? Anybody else suck at making decisions?

Thanks

That's pretty much the norm for 7.62 rated suppressors, you can shave off some weight and add a lot of cost with titanium.

If you plan to shoot .22lr through it, make sure it comes apart for cleaning.

I prefer shooting suppressed pistols to suppressed rifles -- especially 5.56 where the supersonic crack is very loud all by itself. So I'd vote for the Octane 9 HD which I believe would be fine with .300blk subsonic (basically pistol loads).

Does anybody have any experience with the octathe on a blackout? I'm curious how much it will take before getting too hot and how the sound is compared to some of the .30 cal cans

I have both an Octane 9 and a SDN-6. The Octane is quieter with 300 Blackout subs. I haven't shot my Octane with 300 Blackout enough to really measure the heat, but it seems like it doesn't get any hotter than when I shoot it with 9mm.

just to muddy the waters a bit further, AAC is running a $200 rebate (not cash though. store credit. Good for mounts I guess) right now to cover the tax stamp. They don't really make anything I really want, but it's something to keep in mind.

Good input Theohazard, thanks. That's the kind of comparison I was hoping to hear. Maybe others have experienced similar results?

I saw the aac rebate. That made things pretty tempting too. The problem is for some reason aac stuff is so expensive in my area. It's all msrp. Bummer

Find an FFL/SOT in your area who will do cheap transfers, then buy the can from Silencershop. The Form 3 transfer will add a few months to your wait, but it will be a lot cheaper than if you bought the can from a stocking dealer.

I've been thinking about that route... I need to call around and see what different businesses are charging for transfer fees. What's the going rate? ~$100?

Some charge as much as $100, but you should be able to find one much lower than that. The transfer fees on Title II firearms are usually higher because the transferring dealer has to store it while you wait on your Form 4, but you should be able to find one that changes as little as $50.
