What Is Your Drawer Gun?

ever realize most home invaders in "safe neighborhoods" always seem to be the teens living in that neighborhood?

A Ruger 1911 without a round in the chamber. I worry about being awakened and grabbing a cocked and locked gun. I need a few seconds to wake up. I figure if I have time to get up, I'll have time to work the slide, which takes a very conscious wide awake effort. Also, a J frame .38 at another location, not near the bed.

I suppose a man's decision for a home defense weapon must be partially based on where he lives.

Exactly! That's why I have a S&W Model 10 next to my bed. It does take awhile to wake up, and you don't want to be reacting to some dream.

You don't have to do anything but wake up. Racking the slide of a 1911 is something extra. DA revolvers are preferred over SA for SD for similar reasons. That's what works best for me.

Each has to decide their best plan of defense.

XDm .40 with a Surefire X300 and 3 spare mags loaded with Gold Dots in holsters mounted to the frame of my bed. I also have my WC Colt Commander (carry) in it's holster with spare mags in the stand.

I'd like to get a revolver on my wife's side of the bed when she comes around.

I have several handguns that can fill this role however I feel my smith and wesson model 29-3 loaded with .44 mag hydrashoks fit the bill the best. However a mossberg 590 is the primary HD weapon.
Wouldn't you likely end up with permanent deafness if you ever pulled the trigger on that gun while inside your home?

Huhhhh....Say what ? I can't hear you. Speak up ! I see your lips moving.
You heard what I said, Ive shot a ruger supet blackhawk indoors with no hearing aid, ammo used was 180 gr remington soft points, dont believe everything you believe on the internet saying youll go deaf after 1 magnum round, otherwise quite a bit of cops wouldnt be able to hear.

Don't Believe All you Hear on TV

I'm glad you can hear. Really ! Especially glad you are obviously OK, and survived the event. Hope all else went well, too.

Just trying to lighten up the night. We believe you, and thanks.:)

44 Mag 180s loaded hot approach 357 Mag noise levels to me. I think the crack of a 125 grain 357 is only a bit quieter than a 30 Carbine Ruger. That all aside, my S&W mountain Revolver with some 44 Specials first and full power Mags after is on the table. If I hit em I won't need to hear them crawl away.

I keep an early 1970s S&W Chief's Special in the front pocket of my drawers.

Several drawers, several guns. Colt Trooper MK III, S&W 686, Colt Diamond 38 Spl, Uberti 45 Colt, S&W 25 45 Colt, Kahr CW9 and the obligatory AR-15, one in .223, the other .300 AAC. Then there are more in the safe. Anyone want to pay me a visit? :D

PT99 with 4 spare mags. Not that I need 90 rds total, I just load enough so that if there's ever a need to spit and git I have plenty for a while. There's also the wife's 8 shot 22 and my carry guns...summer-RG 32swl that my grandma bought years ago, and winter-Taurus m44 with 2 speed loaders. Of course there's the 20ga 870 youth with 6 turkey loads and a modified choke. It's also the wife's, and the 22 is just noise to get to the pumpgun.

None in the drawer. G17 w/night sights next to my pillow. A couple spare magazines in the bottom.

I aint saying that it didnt ring the hell out of my ears but it appears to me that hearing damage comes out of continious loud noises and not a sudden burst of sound.

And even if it had damaged your hearing, I always say better deaf than dead.
