Hi Guys,

I bought this pistol new a while back and I am having problems developing a load that will reliably cycle the action. I have been using W231 in various weights under a 115 grain Berry's round nose. Been loading with COL at 1.5". Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

What charge are you useing?? I have been useing 231 and HP38 and never had a problem.

How many factory rounds have you sent thru it...maybe just needs a little more broke in.

My current load is 4.1g of 231. Just got back from the range and same old problem. Sometimes the action will work fine for two or three rounds and then I get stove piped on the next few. Frustrating.

I thought those were a bit on the long side! LOL.

When you say your not getting reliable cycling, what is is doing? Leaving a fired case in the chamber, not fully ejecting, not feeding the next round?

It's doing both. Sometimes the empty gets stuck halfway out. Sometimes the next round won't feed properly and the slide hangs. I am wondering if I should increase the powder weight by .1 or .2 g. The recoil spring is very tight and may just need more push than it's getting out of 4.1g.

The combo of the slightly light load and new gun is likely the reason for the issues your having. As stated above just bump your load up a little bit and you should see these issues disappear.

Starting load on Hodgdon sight for a lrn is 4.3. You are using plated, so you are too light as previously suggested.

I usually load it at 4.7 (HP-38) with 115 gr rn with oal at 1.125. The Hodgdon bottle shows (max load) 5.1 at this same oal with 115 gr round nose. At 1.150 you are just a tad light.
