Hi all
Reloaded some range pickup brass today and Three cartridges came out of My Star Reloading Press leaking powder out the primer hole. after examining them I found that the primer hole was over size. I tried a large pistol primer in the over size hole and had a perfect fit. these are Peters .38 Spl Cases and appear to be factory punched holes and not reamed out at some later date. Anyone Know how/why these are large pistol instead of small ?

They're old. When I first started reloading in 1963, they were still common and you had your choice of once fired brass with either small or large primer pockets. With the current shortages, a lot of old ammunition is being hauled out and shot up. The LP primed cases are pretty much collector's items now, but don't have much value, other than nostalgic. I have several of them in my collection.

Hope this helps.

Because many many years ago, they used large pistol primers in some brands of .38 Spl & .357 Mag brass at the factory.
It would have to be very old brass though.

I think I have one or two in my cartridge collection.
What is the head stamp?
