Supposed to be better/cheaper. I like midway but you always had to watch shipping.

I too like Midway but found their shipping cost's a bit on the high side of the spectrum. Not horrible, but not great either.
Same thing with CDNN. I hate paying $10 for shipping when I just need a single mag.

Midway seems to be in on the UPS/USPS deal that gets cheaper shipping, slower delivery, but adds Saturday delivery by USPS.
Mixed results with it so far, savings seem minimal to me, delivery seems a day or two slower so far, although the Saturday delivery was a nice surprise.
OTOH while CDNN flat $10 shipping is high for small orders its great for larger orders. Abilene to Houston its almost always second day delivery -- order on Wednesday, get it on Friday.
Unless I'm desperate for a replacement part I always keep a list of stuff I will need eventually so I can make the S&H charges not eat me up when I do eventually order.

Have to agree 100%. How can USPS get a package coast to coast in 2 days Priority Mail but takes UPS 5 days at a higher cost? Makes no sense.

Enough of use gave them grief about there mailing rates long enough if an item can ship in a simple usps mail folder than do it. Been doing it for some time now.

I think it has improved. I was pricing out some items, including ammo, and the basic shipping (read: slowest) came in at $12.50. In the past IIRC adding ammo basically meant at least $15-$17 for shipping.

Might as well take advantage of cheaper USPS rates while we can; we're paying for it whether we use it or not......

I just gave it a try. Purchased three clearance items. Total of $157. Total Shipping: $0.60
I could get used to this. My NRA round-up was $0.91 BTW.

What did you buy, gold leaf? Got to be a typo in the Shipping that's less that two first class stamps.
It is for sure lower now. I payed $1.80 for shipping a $300+ order that was over 8 lbs all together (scope, bullets, odds and ends). Last week when I had the stuff in my cart the shipping was going to be like $17 or something.

I don't know, I just ordered ~$75 worth of stuff today, $7.79 for shipping and expected delivery July 1 and it was couple of pounds if that. Not very much cheaper and a lot longer expected delivery than my previous ordered.
Seems like some of y'all are getting some kind of special shipping deal.

Midway was off my buy list mainly because of shipping, tried them this AM on a barrel and 200 bullets. Better ups ship was $11.50 and within reason for bulky heavy items. the shipping chart was right next to the cart total so the various offerings were right there to choose.......quite an improvement.

What really bugged me was the "small order charges". If I recall - they were another $3 or $5 on the order if it fell below $25.
Well it's not as good as it is suppose to be, I was looking at getting two small items and guess what they raised the price on the item by $3.00 each. Dropped the shipping cost by $5.00 ($2.00 + the $3.00 small order charge.)
So now where's the savings. Also looked at a set of wood grips for my CZ, Midway want's $70.00 for them, CZ want's $55.00, can you say RIP OFF - Larry.

You've always got to shop around for best price + S&H + tax whenever money is more important than time is to you.
Small orders pretty much always eat you up on shipping & handling charges.

The combination of using UPS and USPS is sort of humorous. Works fine if you don't want it now. I ordered some dies last weekend (over the weekend) and they shipped. Here is what the track looks like:
Now Middleburgh Heights is a local UPS hub and if the package were to be UPS delivered it would have come today. That hub is literally down the road a few miles. But to run the USPS my little dies are now downtown and should be back this way during the evening and I'll see them tomorrow or Friday which is cool with me. It's just sort of humorous how all this works.

Not really all the funny, sad illustration of how subsidies and mandates distort a market and ultimately lead to inefficiency.
The USPS has established labor and delivery routes they can't substantially change and is desperate for cash flow. Can't fault UPS and Midway for trying to gain some slight advantage from it.
But I don't really seen any significant net benefit to me as a customer, although it seems some in this thread seem to have.
USPS pays for an actual person to go past almost everyone's house in the country 6 days a week. If they have room for extra stuff it's cheaper for UPS to have USPS do the final delivery since they are already at the address. By not going to each final destination UPS makes their routes much shorter and faster.
