M1 Garand: where should ejected brass fly?

On Saturday, with Orest's permission, I shot the Garand I'll be returning to the CMP (smoothbore).
I put 72 rounds through it, and it seemed like each one (execpt for the very last, with the clip flying... and also except those that failed to feed) ejected at about 1 o'clock and slightly IN FRONT OF ME.
Is this the right place for ejected brass to fly?

Now, that's a cool piece of information. I certainly don't doubt you, but I'd be curious to know how you figured that out. You're not Doc Edgerton in disguise, are you?

Out of 72 rounds fired, it hit the paper 9 times.
This was a target about 18-inches across, with a black, ringed circle inside. Probably about 60-yards away.
I''m not a target shooter, so I don''t know if that''s "standard" or not. I usually just go out to the country and shoot at cans, and stuff.
Where we were Saturday, (in the desert near Ocotillo, CA), there weren''t any cans, or any very good garbage otherwise to shoot at.
Anyway, I think it did poorly, with reference to accuracy. With reference to fun, hoo-boy, what a kick to shoot!
It was kind of a drag, though, hunting in the sand for that one clip each time it went "Ping!"
I understand J&G sales has Garand clips for about 50-cents a pop. They may soon be getting an order from me. Depends on how soon I get the Garand back from returning it to the CMP.
