Please vote and feel free to discuss the pros/cons of these options, assuming trigger jobs will be done and awful sights swapped out. All in 9mm.

Thanks!

As much as I'd like to recommend the M&P series, sheesh.

A guy on my squad yesterday did VERY well with a Shield that he loves. He's got 7K-8K through it, and even shoots steel plate matches and IDPA with it, and has had not one problem until yesterday, when a loose primer backed out of a round and jammed him up. (I.e.: not the gun's fault.)

Then at lunch, he got to asking about the Pros, and why he couldn't get his son's Pro to work right, and it turns out that just that morning our Club's president had come to ask me if he could finish the match with his M&P 9 standard size because his Pro had completely crapped the bed and he couldn't deal with the jams.

And that makes about 37 (or so it seems) M&P Pros that I've personally seen, or have had close friends and shooting pals relate to me, go south. It's almost a bad joke in my shooting circle. (Ironically, a shooting circle that includes one of the most nationally-known M&P gunsmiths.) "Couldn't finish the match? Why? M&P? Ooooooh, well duh!"

And that drives me nuts because they're SUPER guns to shoot. I really wanted to head in that direction myself, but one close pal's owned FIVE and after sending three of them back to S&W multiple times, finally ditched them all. He wouldn't even sell me one to tinker with.

So... I guess Glock.

I personally shoot an xDM9 a whole lot and it has been just about perfect for years now. I might replace the recoil spring soon, but that's the only maintenance in probably 10K-15K rounds. The only reason I don't suggest them over the Glock is the bore axis height is a little higher, but it really hasn't ever been something I cared about much.

The XDm 5.25 is great. It has a fiber optic front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight. The trigger pulls at about 5.5 lbs, but I recently changed my trigger and a few other parts to reduce it to about 2.7 and about halved the trigger travel.

You don't say if this is for carry. If it is, then you better be able to open carry or be large enough to hide it. My carry gun is an XD 9mm subcompact.

If they fit you I'd go Glock just don't mess with the springs the last three IDPA matches I've been to at least one to four Glocks have had issues related to weak/improper springs, had one go "full auto" last match.

You might want to look into the SIG P226, P229 and P239, all are very nice guns and worth the price. (To me anyway.)

Hope this helped.

HK VP9 is getting good reviews too as far as a full size gun goes. I voted XDm set though since I really like my XDs in .45.

I voted the glock trio but I was real close to voting other with a 5" ppq, ppq, and ccp but the ccp hasn't been proven yet and I don't have much confidence in it yet

Cant really go wrong with any of them, it comes down to which fit you best.

I voted "other" even though a Glock 26 is in my CCL Bag-O-Tricks. My number one main squeeze is a Beretta Px4 Subcompact in 9mm.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. It's been pretty evenly split most of the day, but Glocks have pulled slightly ahead in the polls.

I'm looking to consolidate calibers and one set of grip angles/controls/etc.

raze: Already have the 34 (plus mags, holsters, etc) and bought some 19 mags just before the panic, just in case. It seems like the Glock is a safe bet. (Especially as 10mm seems like a good woods guns).

tarosean: Thanks for the insightful post. :)

Lucky Derby: That's part of the problem, isn't it? All about the some price, performance, accessories, etc.

Sam1911: Thanks for the feedback. The main reason I mentioned the M&P was they seem to be gaining popularity so quickly. I also know a few people who have loved theirs. I know a lot of people mention the bore axis, but XDms have always felt good to me. I was awfully close to getting one when my buddy convinced me to go with the 34 to be in SSP instead of ESP.

LUCKYDAWG13: Have you shot the compact with and without the extension or just the one with the full grip?

GJSchulze: That's why I listed 3 guns. Smaller ones for carry. Which trigger did you go with?

Hometeached1: Thanks for the info! Lots of options out there.

460Kodiak: Hadn't seen that HK yet. Thanks!

jjones45: No Walthers. Had one fail on me and reveal a design flaw with the sear assembly that makes me distrust them.

mnhntr: I just need one of each, 3000 rounds, and a free weekend.

I'm shooting my first Sanctioned match in SSP this weekend. Only took IDPA ?? years to get the division right for the xDs! :)

No problem.... :)

My post started out as a mix and match of your choices. I would rather have the best weapon for the task at hand rather than a consolidation of a certain model. Plus I don't do sub-compact.

My first inclination was to go with a 2011/Commander combo. However, the reality is I moved from Single Stack to Production and shoot a G17 and carry a 4" Commander. (The move from SS was just to try something different)

Now I'm thinking of going to Limited next year. With my conundrum of a 35 slide for my existing 17, a 2011 or scrapping that and going with something very different (CZ Tac Sport.)

My carry choice wont change and still hate sub-compacts. So I erased the rambling nonsense..

Was this a ppq? P99? Did it go full auto? Didn't fire? Please give a little more detail if you don't mind. Lots of people hate on glocks but they can't deny how well they work. A g34 has been on my radar for a while now. IMHO the g34 and g19 are two of the best 9mm made

What is the 'gaming' reference? My answer differs based on that answer. Really. (sorry that I just don't know).

Not really a fan of Glocks mainly because none them really fit me all that well. Both the S&W M&P and Springfield Armory XDm series are better ergonomically but still not my first choice in terms of a family of guns from one manufacturer. In that regard I would say maybe CZ would be my preference. I probably actually belong to the "mix and match" crowd when it comes to purpose built guns.

I'm glad you posted it. I'm not sure whether I'm going down the right path, but I do like the idea of some consistency. Who knows where I'll end up. :)

jjones45, it was a P99 and was pretty much the same flaw shown here, although my break was a larger piece: http://www.waltherforums.com/forum/faq-p99/20452-broken-fire-control-assembly.html
It's a pretty common problem with the P99 it seems.

B!ngo, as mdThanatos (Dr Death?) said, competition, but not crazy open gun stuff.

bannockburn, mix and match may be what I end up with.

Another vote for all CZ: SP01, P01 and Rami.
Are the CZ's available in SA? There are so many variants I'm not sure which ones are DA/SA and SA.

Star 31, Star 205 Ultrastar, Star 43 or 243 Firestar.

Or...S&W 5906, 6906, and 3913

In reality...Gaming - G20-sf, EDC - S&W CS45, ankle backup - Taurus 24/7 Pro-C (compact)

Diaper Bag - 2 Calico Liberty III's & 2 spare mags, because you just never know when you may need to protect the babies :)
