How Many Guns Are Enough ?

there are NEVER enough. I don't feel one pang of guilt for spending as much as i do on guns, they NEVER lose their value, so as i see it, they're wonderful investments.

Enough is what your budget can afford responsibly. If you aren't putting money in your kids college fund, and taking care of your sick parent, then you have enough guns. If you have extra money that you don't need for retirement or bills, then do whatever you please.

Sounds good if it applies. Say "Good night", Gracie.:)

Probably the cause of most of your and your buddies problems if you're taking advice from posters on an internet forum. Heck, a few of them might even be legally old enough to own a gun! kind of like taking advice from a thread on "which caliber is best" or "which gun is best".
Go back and take a class on reading comprehension. I didn't say I had any problems, only that I didn't want any. Secondly, he is computer illiterate and doesn't spend any time on the internet, but thanks for your plebian attempt at putting words in my mouth to make your silly point.

Since you like anecdotes, I have one for you. I have a little over twice as many guns as your buddy, been accumulating (can't really say collecting since there's no real theme to them) them since the 60's. I just went and pulled a couple of blued ones that I haven't looked in a LONG time (over 15 years, since before my father passed away), figured they would be most affected by rust and corrosion as opposed to the parkerized or stainless stuff. They both look just like they did when they were put in the safe. No rust or corrosion on any of the others that I had to move to get to them either.
If you're so wonderful at taking care of your extensive collection and know exactly what products work best at this, then why on earth would you even be concerned about checking even those? And pray tell, with over 400 pieces, how the hell did you even remember you HAD them, let alone know how to take them apart to clean them if they DID show signs of neglect? And if they're "that special,"
why are they not in front where you can readily get at them rather than moving others?

Where do you believe that they sit? I have personally purchased at least three new pistols that I can verify by the date on the purchase receipt versus the date on the enclosed fired case that had been sitting somewhere for over two years. Do you believe that they are stored in a time warp somewhere?
Nowadays? :banghead: Any gun that is even remotely popular, doesn't sit for a week in a warehouse, before it is snatched up by distrubitors. If you have many that have sat years in warehouses, if you go to sell any of them, it's doubtful you'll get a dime for any of them, because they're just not popular. And you sure are expending a lot of energy defending your purchases to somebody that really couldn't care less. Seems I touched a nerve. Sure you don't simply have too many and are just now realizing it?

Sorry, didn't mean to make you mad or jealous.

I'm absolutely sure that I don't have too many. My theory is that if I have them ALL then there won't be any problems in the world with "gun control". Waiting on stamps to be approved on a couple, so that'll be at least two more, and if past performance is any indication, I'll continue to average about one a month. Might take me a while to get them all, but I'm working on it! ;)

Don't worry, he can't understand you either! He just needs to figure out how to maintain his guns!

Gun PTSD

Hey, let's all just chill for awhile, and take a few deep breaths. OK ?

Sometimes we are caught up in different frustrations of life (which are many), and can flow over into our outlets for stress. For our own sakes (yours and mine), let's be positive and "smell the cordite".

Remember, "This is your rifle, and not your gun. It is for shooting and not for fun". Well, maybe it is for fun ! Let's try, OK ?:)

It has nothing to do with how many of this or that you own. It has to do with weather you are a compulsive buyer of anything. It is like a gambler. If you have the money then you can spend it however you please, "that's still the American way of life". But if you deprive your family or those who depend on you from the necessities of life, like food and shelter, than obviously your priorities are wrong.
If on the other hand you are debt free and have extra money, who is to say what you should do with it?
Your neighbor who has the boat that he sinks every penny into, or the guy who bets every game on the weekend? Everyone has something that they enjoy, it's just a matter of moderation and responsible spending.

IMO: One can never have enough guns.

This thread caused me to count my guns. Well, there's a problem. There are 206 long guns on my Excel spread sheet. A count of muzzles shows 217 long guns. Yep, i counted them three times.

Guns will have to come out and be properly inventoried. Most have not been touched by human hands in years.

Gun collectors are not like other people when it comes to answering the question, "How many guns are enough?" Just as (under Parkinson's Law) work expands to fill the time alloted for it, so does a gun collection expand to take up the money alloted to it (and maybe some more).

I lost track years ago of exactly how many guns I have. Maybe I don't want to know the exact figure. It's too many, and yet not enough.

If you copy/paste you can immediately double the number of long guns on your spread sheet you know...

:neener:

I don't have near as many as you guys. I suppose I've traded to often. I only have guns that I use.

I don't have lots of deer guns, not lots of bird guns, or small game guns, or carry guns. Can't use but one at a time, and I sort of like to use the same one all the time for their specific use. That's just me.

How about body armor, would you guys think that it was as important as the weapons? You can't always play offense.

I also can't think of too many scenarios where I can wear body armor, however.

The key, for me, is "unobtrusive", among other things. I can carry a pistol concealed nearly everywhere I wish to go, outside of work. Body armor is another story.

I'm not dressing for full combat scenarios.

This isn't to say that body armor is not a good idea, however. Just that it doesn't suit my circumstances.

Not meaning to drag this string off topic, however.

:)

Sorry about taking that turn, perhaps another thread is a better idea. I just was thinking about playing defense instead of just thinking offense.
