Petition to remove suppressors from the NFA

This White House petition site is just a way of allowing people to vent, with no actual effect. Don't waste your time.

It shows you don't understand how our system works if you think the President can do that.

The President is not a king.

Look up the school house rock video on ""I'm only a Bill" to learn more.

Can and DOES are two entirely different things

The king is gettin sued by congress right now for changing law on a whim.

I don't think "school house rock" aired on Chicago PBS stations

I think we all know how the U.S. Gov goes about making and amending laws, I didn't post this up because I actually think the POTUS can unilaterally change the NFA. I posted it here because I've heard several of these petitions mentioned on the news after they got a certain amount of signatures. The possibility of injecting the idea of changing the way suppressors are handled into the mainstream consciousness is worth a couple clicks, and one minute of my time, if it's not worth your time, move along.

Might be a waste, but it is still nice to annoy the king.

Obama couldn't care less right now. He's just going through the motions, and enjoying the perks of office while he can. He knows as well as everybody else does that he's a lame duck -- and will be even more so after the November congressional elections. He's not touching the gun issue except to make the requisite noises to keep his base revved up.

Any serious bill to change the NFA would immediately be amended to flatly ban all items now covered by that law, and probably to ban semi-auto handguns, rifles and shotguns as well. That might not pass but it is a certainty that the anti-gun folks will try to change ANY pro-gun bill that has a chance into an anti-gun bill. So the NRA says support HB XXX, but while its letters are going out, HB XXX is amended to ban and confiscate all guns. Then we end up signing our own death warrant.

Umm has anyone noticed the numbers on this petition have gone down over the past two days? When I signed it was at 91k

@ Comrade Mike, post #12... check your internet history!

If you signed at 91k and saw that on your screen, lookup online how to view your browser history/internet cache from that day. It will be stored on your machine locally. This would be pretty significant if the regime is deleting petition votes that don't fit its agenda. Anyway, I'd love to see a screenshot of that 91k number!

It was on my phone unfortunately :/

But when I signed both the SBR and Silencer petitions were under 10k signatures required.

Are you sure you were looking at the number of signatures received instead of the number of signatures needed to get to 100k, both numbers are up on the page? The number of signatures received has more than doubled (7k to 15k) since yesterday.

Perfect example of the lack of knowlage of civics by the so-called "Citizens"...

Petition your Congressman and Senator. Once both the House and Senate pass bills to amend the NFA, then you can worry about the Executive Branch signing it into law...

Really a shame that folks actually believe that "Petitioning the Whitehouse" has any influence at all on the legislative process. "We", of all people, ought to know better.

Its supposed to be a petition for a comment from the White House. Useful for issues that they haven't yet commented on.
It is not for wishes you want to come true. He's not Santa either.

IMO, these things make us all look like mouth breathers.
If what you want is media coverage then petition to the media.

Good lord, no-one reads posts on a thread before they post.

No one thinks the president can change the NFA law . Stop.
All the petition does is draw attention .Stop.

IMO, these things make us all look like mouth breathers.

Really? With folks walking around Texas cities with rifles slung, and other folks walking through colleges with empty holsters, you think that signatures on an electronic petition used to draw attention to an issue is what makes us look like mouth breathers? If so, you really need to re-evaluate your thoughts on how the rest of the populace perceives us, and what kinds of things turn them off to our ideas.

If what you want is media coverage then petition to the media.

Ok, where is CNN's petition page? I'll get right on it.

Petition your Congressman and Senator.

You don't start making a change by sending individual letters to Congressmen asking for their support on something most people don't even know exists. You start making a change by normalizing the idea in the minds of the populace. You have to take an idea that is foreign to most people and slowly, through repeated exposures make it seem normal to them. You bring up the conversation and direct the rules of the discussion and establish the boundaries and terminology that you want used. THEN once the conversation is set, you start working on Senators and Congressmen.

These are exactly the kinds of things the American Silencer association has been doing, sculpting the discussion about silencers away from silent assassins lurking in the night, towards hearing protection for hunters and shooters.

Will the petition accomplish much? Probably not, but at least it's another opportunity to give the general populace a controlled exposure to the idea.

Wow I'm an idiot.... I was totally flipping the two numbers....

Please ignore me, it's been a long day.
