Good lord, no-one reads posts on a thread before they post.
No one thinks the president can change the NFA law . Stop.
All the petition does is draw attention .Stop.
IMO, these things make us all look like mouth breathers.
Really? With folks walking around Texas cities with rifles slung, and other folks walking through colleges with empty holsters, you think that signatures on an electronic petition used to draw attention to an issue is what makes us look like mouth breathers? If so, you really need to re-evaluate your thoughts on how the rest of the populace perceives us, and what kinds of things turn them off to our ideas.
If what you want is media coverage then petition to the media.
Ok, where is CNN's petition page? I'll get right on it.
Petition your Congressman and Senator.
You don't start making a change by sending individual letters to Congressmen asking for their support on something most people don't even know exists. You start making a change by normalizing the idea in the minds of the populace. You have to take an idea that is foreign to most people and slowly, through repeated exposures make it seem normal to them. You bring up the conversation and direct the rules of the discussion and establish the boundaries and terminology that you want used. THEN once the conversation is set, you start working on Senators and Congressmen.
These are exactly the kinds of things the American Silencer association has been doing, sculpting the discussion about silencers away from silent assassins lurking in the night, towards hearing protection for hunters and shooters.
Will the petition accomplish much? Probably not, but at least it's another opportunity to give the general populace a controlled exposure to the idea.
