Brass hitting the forehead on ejection

this twice now the 9mm brass has hit my wife in the forehead out of a 100 rounds. Gun was previously clean during each of the 50 round sessions. I'm using 6.5gr of AA#7 with 124gr xtreme copper plated RN at 1.16 COL.

Would lowering the COL 1.13 help? Or would it be better to add another grain of powder?
 
Accurate Powder site shows load data for 124 plated to be 6.7-7.6. So you are at the starting load and max COAL. I would load hotter and seat deeper. I seat xtreme RN's at 1.135. If it were me, i would try some at 7gr and 1.14.
 
She has a Ruger LC9. When I was loading HP38 4.2gr with xtreme CPFP with a COL of 1.115. So I had two changes to deal with going from HP38 to AA#7 and a CPFP to CPRN. I'll lower the COL and go up to 6.7 for her.
 
It's not being caused by your handloads or their OAL. It's because the gun recoils differently in her hands and because the ejector and extractor are not working together. The empty case is not making it out of the port before the slide comes back and hits it - driving it into her face. Send it back to Ruger.
 
It ejected fine with the 28 factory rounds she shot. And it ejected fine with the other HP-38 handloads I had done before. After firing over a 1000 rounds through the gun, it just started happening after I started loading with the AA#7. And it was 2 of a 100 rounds. I'll try a heavier load first before I do something as drastic as sending it back, though I could probably just take it to the shop she bought it from if this keeps happening.

Check out her shooting technique. Fatigue and grip could easily the problem, not the pistol or load.

For an instant I thought I read this post as 50 BMG. You'd better hope that case wouldn't be hitting you in the head!:eek:

I agree with the other posts:
Bump up the charge
Change grip or hold on more firmly
Be sure to wear a hat and eye protection

Ultra light 40 or 9mm loads tend to do the same for me in my M&P40 while full power 40 loads sail over my right shoulder.
 
I would not disagree with others about technique or load but I had a Kimber 1911 that did this as well and it required ejector work and ejection port to cut and lowered to stop it from happening.
 
I have an exceptionally accurate 308 NM Garand and it flings cases right into my fore head. If during rapid fire, I forget to lower the brim of my hat, so it touches the rear peep, I have come home with circular and semi circular cuts on my forehead. Plus a little blood. I must resemble a professional wrestler in that respect.

But, since the rifle functions perfectly otherwise, and shoots great, I am not messing with it.

Something is a little off in your pistol either to extractor tension or ejector height, send it back to the factory and get it fixed.
