I've seen mixed reviews on the SCCY. Some say it is a great buy , for the money. The price is OK at $250 and up, but if it lets you down at a critical moment (threat), I don't need it.

"If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is".

Those who have experienced shooting or owning the SCCY, please share your info with the rest of us. Thanks.:)

I own 2, I first purchased a CPX2, it is the all black version, I have approx. 300 rounds thru it. I have yet to experience the first hang up with it of any kind.

I since have purchased a CPX1, it is the two tone version, I now have approx. 1,000 rounds thru it. The only hang up's I've experienced with was when working up cast reloads and having not charged the case with enough powder I experienced a lack of the slide to operate fully. Upping the charge a few 10th's of a grains cured that problem.

I've also changed the recoil spring to lower the felt recoil, this also is why I was working up lighter loads.

Overall my experience has been totally positive, no problems what so ever.

Remember all manufactures have problems at one time or another, I know of no firearm manufacturer who has not had recalls. Just as there has not been an auto manufacturer who has not had a recall.

There has been a problem with the magazine springs being in backwards. Simple for most anyone to correct, however this has not occurred in either of mine.

A friend brought one over to my farm range about 2 months ago to shoot and I was very much impressed with the SCCY 2 9mm that I shot that day .For the money, I thought it was a good gun and never malfunctioned on the 3 types of ammo I shot in it. It is well made with a solid design from a company with a great customer service and a lifetime warranty. A win-win in my opinion. Enjoy

Just came back from a pawn shop where the owner showed me one. He asked what was wrong with it. Seems the trigger was not connected to the hammer to fire DAO. I pointed out that the trigger bar is sandwiched in the frame and one would have to take out the hammer group from the frame.

So due to guarantee from the factory he is gonna send it back to be fixed.

Kind of like a Kel-Tec. Some work prefect (both my P32 and P3AT do) but some just fall apart.

I have a CPX2 black. I have around 800 rounds thru it so far, Not one single problem. Yes it is inexpensive, but comes with a No questioned asked life time warranty.

I use it for my CCW. If you read the manual and do not shoot what they tell you to not shoot thru it you should have no problems.:D

sig 1911

My new sig 1911 is a beautiful two tone pistol. Problem is, it jams every mag, sometimes more than once. Sig warranty person, says just keep firing more rounds, it will eventually become reliable. Is that a "lifetime" guarantee? So far I have fired 75 rounds , at least a third resulted in a three point jam. The sig has a crude MIM extractor. It does make a good paperweight, and it does make a S-W Sigma look good.

Just finished "breaking in" my new SCCY CPX-2. First 50 rounds through the pistol were rough (using Magtech factory ammo), had a lot of failure to go into battery (not FTE or a true FTF - seemed to get stuck traveling up the feed ramp). Did a little research and made sure I kept a "locked" wrist when shooting. I also gave the pistol a extra good cleaning and used hi temp grease on the slide instead of oil.

Next 300 rounds were all perfect, no failures (mixture of hand loads of 115gr FMJ, Winchester silver tip and Remington FMJ).

Fairly accurate as well; I'm not a certified marksman by any means, but I could put a full mag through the head of a B-27 target at 20 yards.

So far, I'm pretty happy with the performance.

Welcome aboard !:)

liveoak,

Some will disagree but I figure on 500 rounds to break in a new semi-auto. It gives it a chance for the gremlins to work their way out. Ammo and magazines can cause problems.

Back to the main topic a LGS brought four of the SCCY's and had problems with all of them. For the same money you can buy a used CZ-82 9x18. It has 12 round magazine, double action and cocked and locked action. They are very reliable and the Commies know how to built solid guns that will withstand a lot of use.

CZ-82 Alternative

Been there. Done that.

I like my CZ-82. The only problem I have with it, is also one of it's favorable attributes, namely it's 12 rd. magazine. The large number of rds. makes it heavy, and not easy for CC. One possible solution is a shoulder rig (which I have). That limits CC to colder months, since a coat or jacket over it is necessary. Belt or pocket carry tends to pull my pants down. Revelations are not favored in Kroger! Suspenders, or the like could help.

Good suggestion though, and CZ-82 has potential.:)

Yep the CZ82 is a bit on the thick side. How does it's size compare to the SCCY?
I haven't "handled" a SCCY CPX-2 yet. I'm concerned that the double stack mag may be too big for my medium-small hand. The CZ-82 fits like a glove, even though it's a double stack too. I hope to try out the SCCY soon.

I have both in my collection. Two more rounds is not what makes the CZ so much heavier, it is the all steel construction.

I am a small man, 5'4", small hands, short trigger finger thanks to a punch press. I much prefer to shoot the SCCY and it fits my hand much better.

In the end the fit to ones hand is established by ones preference.

I considered the SCCY CPX-2, the Ruger LC9, the Kel-tec PF9, the Kahr CM9, and the S&W Shield for a smaller carry 9.

I know this is going to sound like the "buy a glock" argument that pops up all over the place but IMO save up the $ and buy a shield. I didn't mind the feel of the other guns (PF9 being an exception) but the trigger, feel, and S&W reputation were the winning points for me. Tons of aftermarket support helps too.

SCCY Look a Likes

I've noticed the SCCY CPX-2 looks a lot like the S&W .380 BodyGuard, and DiamondBack 9mm.

Also, the torture test for the SCCY on YouTube with syrup and peanut butter was impressive. Operated without a hiccup.

Anybody shot or owned these and compared to the SCCY?:)

I just don't think pouring maple syrup over your handgun tells you much about it.

It seems like an OK gun, especially for the price.

It's not about "good taste", it's about "good tests", and how well the SCCY performs.

How about it SCCY owners ? Does yours perform well ? Is it a good CCW ?:)

Peanut butter and maple syrup poured on the gun may not tell you much about it, but it will certainly taste better .

OK, here is my honest report. I bought mine a year ago and have about 350 rounds through it. It has and does everything I expect of it. No jams, no FTF, no light strikes. It is accurate within the range you would probably need it. "Chest zone hits from 1 to 20 yards." It hides easy for CCW.

The trigger pull is long, but I carried revolvers most of my early career so it doesn't bother me.

I switch it out between my glock 23 and the SCCY according to what i'm wearing and what i'm doing. I trust it to go bang just as much as I do my Glock.

I paid $249.00 for the SCCY and $500.00 for the Glock.

I hope this helps. :)
