SCCY CPX-2 Vs.Glock 42

As I posted, my 14 year-old, 5'5" 125 pound grand-daughter has no trouble shooting a CPX-1, after the modification I made. If SHE has no issues with the 9mm in that package, I really have to wonder about the dedication of some posters.

FYI, as she wasn't an "accomplished" shooter, she learned the trigger quickly, and can fill the X-ring of a Shoot-N-C at 7-10 yards. She's certainly not Tod Jarret, but I sometimes wonder where the descriptions come from.
Really depends on how much you shoot in a day, age, etc. I don't wince a bit shooting 9mm loads from a 14 - 17 oz gun, even + P. But I wouldn't do enjoy 300- 500 rounds of it in a day, especially with a shooting hand that has carpal tunnel and a bit of arthritis.

A fun gun should be something that you CAN shoot several hundred rounds without discomfort.

Fun, like beauty, is in the eye (or hand) of the beholder. Three of my most favorite handguns are my G20s (Gen2 and Gen4) and my Ruger Super Redhawk.

I cut my teeth on full house .357 and .44 Magnum loads in the late '60s and that extended into the late '80s. I shot so many heavy loads in my Redhawk (not Super), I had to have the forcing cone re-cut because of gas cutting. In those days of invincibility and immortality, it was pure pleasure to make long range silhouette hits with one of my eargesplitten loudenbooomers.

It still is, I just do less now days to accommodate the newer shooters in my life. But the day my wife asked to shoot "the big shiny revolver" I jumped at the chance. After building up to full power, she agreed a big revolver with a superb single action trigger that lets you almost wish a shot off is a lot of fun.

I hear you TarDevil, even at $40 a brick , a box of 22 is only $4.00 , much less than 380, unless you reload. I have been getting 22 at walmart for $20 a brick at least twice a month. That said, having fun means different things to different people. To each his own,, Snoop

Thanks to the 'Pro's' Vs. Cons:

Just won/paid $409 shipped off GB

Thanks,

Next post will have my review...

I really like the glock 42

I just bought a GLOCK 42 for off duty carry and really love it.

My criteria was reliability, recoil and control and finally, accuracy.

I have so far 360 rounds through the GLOCK 42 and it was not hard. I shot up to 90 rounds at a time and despite the light weight, it was controllable and reliable.
The accuracy surprised me. I can shoot it as well as larger .380ACP pistols, like the SIG 232 or BERETTA 84. Only the recoil really stands out as a difference and the magazine capacity when compared to the BERETTA,

I have tried the mini-9's like the RUGER LC9 and found them miserable to shoot. I know the argument that you will not notice the recoil in a gunfight makes sense to some, but not me. If the recoil is too hard to practice, then you will not practice enough and it will show when you really need to hit the target.

Fun Gun

If its just for fun, I'd get something with a longer barrel. THe SCCY isn't great for shooting much further than 25 yards (IMHO), at least at my skill level. I can get a lot more in the black with my RIA full size 1911 with the 5" barrel.

I'm not a finesse enough shooter (yet) to really tell the difference between a "good" or "bad" trigger pull.

The SCCY does seem to have a snappy recoil, but I think its because the pistol is so light.

Just a thought.

Had a similar situation a few weeks back -- just wanted something new.

I wound up buying a S&W SD9VE. I selected it mostly on price, but a bit because it felt good in my hand. I paid $289 for it, and I figured that it could become my gun to play with and modify without costing me a fortune.

I was pleasantly surprised at the range. Its a pretty good little gun. Its had several hundred rounds through it. The end of its trigger bit my finger pretty bad, so I got it an APEX polymer one. I didn't like its rear sight, so I switched it for an M&P metal one.

I still have less than $350 in it and it looks like its going to be a surprising little gun. Well worth considering.
Off topic but I too love my SD9VE. Worth WAY more than the street price.

went looking for 42 mags, WTH? :what:

Sold Out or Retail + :banghead:

I have to admit, it's been a decade (well, it seems like it), but I seldom pay more than $20-22.

If I love the 42, I need at least 6 mags.

Yes the mags are hard to come by right now. I got a couple from Caballas and if I remember correctly I paid $29.95 each plus shipping.

Today I got my 42 in my hands.

-Man, it is Small for a Glock.
-Dry fire, stiff trigger.

I pulled it apart & cleaned & Top-Shot (Red-grease).

Next, range trip w various ammo & steel targets.

192 rounds without a hiccup! Not a One.

Despite learning what's hotter (shoots above poa) & whats weaker (shooting below poa), I could ring the steel at will @13y.

-Fun!
-No Range Rash.
-Longer reset that other bigger Glocks.
-The heavy pull during dry practice is less, if not hardly noticeable during live fire.

Good choice. I have no need for a .380, but I understand the attraction. The same way I always liked .410 shotguns. Small, intricate and just so cute compared to a 12 guage. That said I dont have one.

I held the little Glock the other day, and I got the same feeling. That, and I love Glocks,

Get the pinky extensions for the mags if you can. Well worth the money and makes a great shooter even better especially if yer hands are a little larger.

Like JR47 I found the safety to be a real hand biter and not at all needed. Unlike JR ...the sweet sounding factory girl mailed me a new grip frame without the safety for free and it took me ten minutes to change. The pistol shoots well, has a hard trigger and serves it's intended purpose as a truck gun but a Sig 938 is my CC pistol.

I don't own a G42, but I have two of the older generation SCCY's CPX1's. I love both of those pistols, they shoot great, though they are extremely light, so recoil with my self defense hand loads does have quite a bite. I've put at least 1k of my high velocity self defense loads through each, and they aren't even looking broken in yet. IMO, they are a well built economy pistol.

I forgot to mention the triggers. I can't believe just how smooth and light the triggers feel, great pistols.
