I have been trying to decide what I wanted to be my sidearm as I went out this coming hunting season. Last year I had some close calls with coyotes and during Spring turkey season, in addition to the coyotes attacking my decoys only yards away from me as I sat on the ground, I cam across quit a few large hog tracks. On my list were a couple of .45 ACPs, .357 Magnums and .44 Magnums. The .44s were pretty much off the list since I was not going to be able to afford one in that price range. There were a couple of .357s that were withing what I might be able to afford, but was not seeing any in my local gun shops. I decided to put my Beretta 92fs up for trade and see what offers I got.

The other day a gentleman offered a Smith & Wesson 66-2 4" barrel. It was in great shape and I felt I was coming out on top in this deal so I took it. The action on this revolver is silky smooth. The gun is well balanced and just plain looks beautiful. I am going to be looking for a nice set of wood grips in a dark wood that will made it look even more amazing. I am going out to shoot it tomorrow to make sure the rear adjustable sight is on target. I can't wait. This will be a great addition to my collection.

During gun deer season, there is a piece of public hunting land that I like to head to. The downside is that I am limited to either bow or shotgun with slugs. No centerfire rifles allowed. However, they allow for centerfire pistols with the use of iron sights, no scopes. The plus side to this is last year and during Spring turkey season, I was regularly able to get withing 20 yards of deer. This actually opens up my ability on that piece of land.

I'm just super excited to have found this gun and had to share it with some folks who could appreciate it. Oh, and here is some gun porn.

Very nice .

I like the 66 better than the 686 and I really like my 686 .

I would not be in a hurry to replace those grips . It might look nicer with the wood grips , but I bet you will like shooting it better with the rubber grips . Plus if your hands get wet , you will have a better non slip grip with the rubber grips .

My 686 came with those big target grips . They did not fit my hand good , so I replaced them with a set of Pachmayer's . I shoot the gun more accurate with the Pachmayer grips . The factory wood grips set in the Pachmayer box now .

The factory wood grips on my 2 inch Model 66-2 were very small and wimpy. Have Pachmayer (model SK-GR) on it for a world of difference in size and gripping ability.
