What's Blue Dot good for?

I like it in 9mm for anything over 124 grains. I found a very accurate load using it with 124 gr precision delta fmjs. I also use it at 7.0 grains with a 130 grain cast flat nose. It likes to be ran close to max to do well in 9mm. Otherwise its dirty and possibly spikey.

I wouldn't suggest it in the acp, it doesn't build enough pressure in my experience.

a fantastic powder for 9mm (124gn xtp @ 1250 fps), 357 magnum (158gn lswc @ 1250 fps and 180 gn ltc @ 1200 fps), 45lc ruger only load (265gn lswc @ 1100fps).

for velocities just below h110 levels it is great.

This. About 2008 I think.
Safety Notice
At Alliant Powder, we take safety seriously. That’s why we periodically test our products in different situations to be sure our use recommendations stay current. Check here for any safety notes or recall information. Stay safe and keep accurate.
Alliant Powder periodically reviews and tests their published reloading data to verify that our recommended recipes have not changed over time.

During the latest review Alliant Powder discovered that Alliant Powder's Blue Dot® should not be used in the following applications:

Blue Dot® should NOT be used in the 357 Magnum load using the 125 grain projectile (Blue Dot® recipes with heavier bullet weights as specified in Alliant Powders Reloading Guide are acceptable for use).

Blue Dot® should NOT be used in the 41 Magnum cartridge (all bullet weights).
Use of Blue Dot® in the above cases may cause a high pressure situation that could cause property damage and serious personal injury.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

For me Blue Dot has worked well with mostly jacketed bullets. For 357 mag It worked well with 158gr and heavier bullets, BD works well for upper end 44spl and works well for 44 mag.
I have used it for .308 Win. with 125gr Nosler BT with surprisingly good results.

I've loaded Blue Dot and 10mm. Blue Dot will push a 200gr. bullet, nicely.
After reading this, I figured I'd try using BD with a 180gr plated in 10mm. Loaded up 5 rounds (9.0gr) before going to the range yesterday, and they gave a nice pattern at ~35'. So now I know what to do with that bottle of BD I gave up on.

I've used it for 165 gr JHP in 10mm.

Alliant has max 11.5 gr 1273 FPS
Lyman 49th has max 10.2 for 1230 FPS

In my Glock 20 I haven't been able to do better than 1163.

I used to load .41 Mag using Blue Dot for my 14" T/C Contender. Many years after I sold it, they came out with their warning. Sure worked well when I was loading for it.
