I have a 10/22 TD that I've been using CCI ammunition with. Factory mags and the 25 rd aftermarket type with the plastic feed lips both have had feed issues this last outing - three failure to feed. Never had that issue before, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues? I bought the CCI rounds because they came highly recommended, but they don't seem to be working out for me.

go back to the 10rd box mags and see if you still have the problem.

CCI ammo seems to work fine in both of my 10/22's. Tried some other mags that lock together in a big 3 sided triangle looking mess of clear and red, those are junk.

Got the small box mags with a trimag accessory and all is good.

be safe.

CCI is known for their reliable ignition and relatively accurate speeds, not necessarily their ability to load.
Is this happening randomly, first shot, last shot etc...?
When was the last time the rifle had a good cleaning?
Is it just two mags this is happening on, or more?

I did go back to the 10 rd mag, and had no issue. The rifle was cleaned within the last 300 rounds fired, so it shouldn't be that...

As far as when they occur, it seemed really random. Not the first or last round of the mag, but somewhere in between. One mag had one failure, then no issues (that was the factory mag). The next mag had two in the same loading. It was the kind of failure where the round doesn't fully clear the magazine, and gets caught halfway fed in between the bolt and the breach.

What I have seen happen with my 10-22 is the rounds in mag need to be "BUMPED" to align the shells. On some war movies especially with the M1Garand you can see the guy pull out the clip and bump it on his helmet. This will realign and loosen the shells, also you could put a very small amount of lube on top of the bolt to make sure it is not dragging.

I looked at the mags, and all I saw was what looked like a little bit of carbon at the very front of the mags. It doesn't scratch off with my finger nail, so I don't think it's wax

Possible that it's not lubed enough.
But 3 failure to load in 300 rounds doesn't scream a huge concern to me.
Take it out some more after another good clean. If you still have issues let us know. There's just not enough here to claim or diagnose a problem.

Ok. It is fairly new, so you may be right that it just isn't broken in yet. If it continues to be a headache I'll be back with more head-scratching.

Thanks

Just as a semi-auto handgun can malfunction if you limp-wrist it, some semi-auto rifles can have feeding problems if you "soft shoulder" them.

As an experiment, trying holding the rifle firmly, as you would a .416 Rigby. Let the recoil of the cartridge move only the bolt, not the whole rifle. See if it makes a difference.

J-BARM thank you for your input on LIMP WRIST, I had an issue with a 10-22 yesterday, it would eject and load next round but failed to re cock it. Didn't try but one or two rounds and due to heat and humidity I came in the house. But I think that was my problem cause I just one handed the rifle.

When one of mine did this after changing from an 18" barrel to a threaded 16.25" I assumed initially it was "weak ammo" needing the extra two inches of barrel. But upon further investigation it turned out one of the takedown pins holding the hammer/trigger group had partially "walked" out. Putting it back in correctly solved the problem. I added a shim to the stock so the pin couldn't come out far enough to free the other side.

My 10/22 quit working with plastic mags years ago. Finally I took the bolt and trigger out and cleaned everything including the gummed up guide rod. Now it works great with any mag and any ammo.
