First, I love my revolvers. Love 'em love'em love'em! I've CCW'ed a Ruger SP101 for years. Sometimes though I think about changing things up a bit though, even to the point of maybe carrying ..... an automatic.
My stainless CZ75B is great. If they made a stainless compact version that's what I'd get without debate.
OK. I'm not really familiar with what's out there nowadays. Here's some criteria and I'd appreciate thoughts folks.

Calibers I'd prefer: 9mm, .380 ACP, .32ACP.

Material I'd prefer: stainless all the way or stainless/polymer.

External manual safety (i.e. no Glocks).

Weight: Not an issue. Heavy is fine.

I reload too, so I can practice often, helping answer the shot placement concerns.

The NAA Guardian would suit the bill but I read some stuff. I had a stainless PPK/S but it had feed problems from the get-go. Sure was pretty though.

I'll keep looking folks, but I always enjoy hearing other folks ideas.

The older s&w autos are very nice. Wish I had one that I have ogled in the shop by my house multiple times. It's a bit big for modern standards but then again I am too. In the $400 range though I doubt you are able to beat them in quality, durability, or style. One of these days I will be able to comment on reliability and accuracy.
 
A SIG P232 would fit your list great, except no manual safety, but does have decocker and is DA/SA.

If you don't mind Aluminum frame a S&W 3913 would be great.

The S&W Shield has a stainless steel slide that is coated in Melonite and has a thumb safety.
 
In 9mm. maybe a Ruger SR9c with a stainless slide. A Colt Mustang Pocketlite would also give you a stainless slide, aluminum frame, and a manual safety.

Probably the best .380 on the market. It will reliably feed any configuration of bullet you want to feed it,and is exceptionally accurate,

Rather interesting that you want a manual safety even though you have carried a revolver for awhile. Going from Revolver to Glock-style is usually easier than training to disengage a safety. But anyway, whatever floats your boat.

Ruger SR9/SR9c/SR-9e would fit your bill pretty well. 9mm, external safety, LCI on the SR9 and 9c if you want it or 9e if you don't. 27 oz is a very reasonable weight for carry or range use.
 
The Sig P230 and P232 are both great pistols, as Hometeached1 noted.

I have a Sig P232, a CZ83, a Beretta Model 85FS, and a Colt Government .380. All are well built, but only the Colt would be considered a "pocket pistol". If your heart is set on a .380, the Glock 42 is a great pistol.

In a 9mm, you may want to consider the Ruger LC9s. It's a new, single-stack 9, and the trigger is outstanding.

In .32ACP, you'll be limited in your choices. There just aren't a lot of new ones out there. The .380's and "light" 9mm's seem to dominate.

I do have an older Beretta Model 70, and a CZ83 in .32ACP. They're both great pistols.
 
You mentioned the NAA Guardian in .32 ACP. For looks and size it is a nice little pocket gun.

For shoot ability and function, I'd look into a KelTec P32 or a Taurus TCP 732 (if you can find one).

I have the Guardian and the discontinued 732. The 732 is a much better gun in everyway except looks and customization.
 
Thanks again all. A friend across the state recently bought an SR9C from his stepson who was short on cash. Oddly, he just glanced at it and with the business of the holiday weekend taking them out of town, couldn't remember if it was stainless or nitride finished. He said he bought it with a plan to sell it but keep the 700 rounds of ammo he got in the deal. He said he was gonna ask $350 for it (few hundred rounds thru it, has box and all the papers, etc) but would take less if I wanted it.
I'll wait to see if it's stainless as I want. Is this about the going price for an SR9C in 95% plus condition with box and papers? Don
 
If it has what you want, I'd say that is very reasonable. I have a full size SR9 and love it. Ergonomics, accuracy, ease of use are all there. As well as a great trigger.
 
I like the sig 226. A little bit pricer, has a de cocker but no manual safety.
 
Browning BDA 380

One of my carry guns is the Browning BDA 380 in nickle. It's not stainless but as close as you can get to SS. The gun is 13+1, superior quality, accurate and with a hard to find spur hammer which I prefer in any semi. I use IMR PB for my 380 loads which give them some pop. These guns can be found on GB usually for $600+. When I found mine at a LGS at $573, I jumped on it.
