how long does a set of rubber grips last on average? i have a ruger police service six and bought some mustang grips from numrich for spares. i have the one's on the gun and 2 spare sets, just wanted to know how long they last. thanks

Don't know yet.

Only had some Pachmayrs for 45 years.
And some Hogue's for close to 30.

wow, i guess i have plenty. i like the hogue but how hard is it to knock my grip pin out to use them?

About one day or less as I switch them out for aftermarket wood. :D

I've often wondered how long they hold up. I have a hard set of Pachmayrs for my SP101 that seem like they would last forever. The stock soft rubber grip with the inserts doesn't seem as durable. I guess I'm just having flashbacks of kraton knife grips ripping off etc.

I do prefer a wood grip when prudent, though.

I've had my 1911 Pachmyers since 1972. Still as good as new. Keep all rubber grips away from fun oil and cleaners. They'll outlast you.

I suspect that all modern "rubber" revolver grips are not rubber at all. They're probably some version of neoprene. There are chemical additives in neoprene which keep it from hardening in the cold, and softening in the heat.

Live rubber grips will eventually harden and become brittle, even with the best vulcanization.

Lifestyle....

If you are outdoors a lot or go in/out of vehicles, they rubber may get wear or scuff marks.
I put a new Hogue Tamer grip on my Ruger GPNY .38spl revolver. It had some sun/UV damage & minor scuffs after a few months. That's normal.
Rubber, if properly taken care of or of high quality(like Hogue models) can last years but sweat, humidity, rain, etc make change the feel or sensation.

Anywhere from one day to a couple of weeks depending on long it takes to get wood replacements. I’ve got a ziplock bag that keeps getting fuller and fuller of recycled tires.

The Hogue rubber grips on my duty issued S&W 686 are quite beat up and aged but still give you the good grip. I never heard of any complaints.

Pachmayr says their grips are made of real rubber.

Most other brands are a synthetic known as Kraton.

Pachmayr recommends using Armor-All to keep their rubber grips in good shape.

Plus 1......

I use the Turtle Wax X21 formula on my SUV & leather sofa. The bottle says not to use the product on surfaces where you do not want slippery or slick surfaces(like vehicle steering wheels).

On my Hogue Tamer rubber grip & other rubber/soft polymer items, I've used Ballistol. ;)
I put it on my Eddie Bauer leather wallet too.
