Taurus 38 special "View"

I actually agree with one of the above suggestions about making it in .380. As long as they were marketing to the "make it as small as humanly possible" crowd, they should have gone with a .380 so they could shorten the frame and cylinder by just that little bit more.

Unless 15 ounces ain't light enough.

The mantra of the day was "carried a lot, shot a little".

Why do we seem to insist that we fire hundreds of rounds every outing with every gun?

Carl Rohrbaugh said that once of the R9, it was repeated online and spread like wild fire on the Internet and people twisted it to mean the gun was basically a very expensive, disposable carry piece..

People want a gun that hits like a 50 cal, recoils like .22LR, is small enough that it completely disappears in a pocket but somehow has a grip that fills your hand and is light as a feather.

And they want to be able to fire 500 rounds through it every few days and have it last forever.

This little revolver is one (small) step up from a Derringer.

Maybe they should chamber it in 9mm ?

Unless 15 ounces ain't light enough.

Just for grins, Colt's little .25 model 1908 Vest Pocket Model using all-steel construction tipped the scale at 13 ounces.

In a pocket revolver I am much more worried about bulk then (within reason) weight. If I really thought I needed to reduce the weight of a Taurus 380 I could, but I don't.

I shoot my 340PD with full-boat magnums. It is a handful, but it is not a big deal.

I think the View is an innovative idea and certainly a viable option for pocket carry in dress slacks or when you just want something to grab and go when headed out the door.

I would like to see this gun chambered in .22 magnum and shrunk down even more in size with maybe an 8 shot cylinder. The cylinder could be shrunk down quite a bit more with the more slender cartridges.

I ordered one and should have it next week. If it does die on the vine, I will still be happy to own an interesting variation of the ultra-lightweight carry revolver genre.

I'll put 50 range rounds through it, 25 Hornady CD 110gr +p and then it will sit and wait for a day I hope never comes.

For those of us that do not want too much recoil from such a lightweight revolver, I wonder if a 100gr wadcutter at about 850ft/sec would give as much energy and penetration as the 380 ACP?

Keep in mind that .380 ACP performance is generally not measured from 2" barrels.

That said, recoil from a 100 grain wadcutter @ a true 850 FPS would likely exceed that of a standard .380 ACP.

Lyman lists a .38 Special load consisting of a jacketed 95 grain H.P @ 1042 FPS, but that's out of a 4 inch barrel.
