I have an opportunity to pick up a lnib sr1911 for $600. I know if it were $550 I would jump on it. Any thoughts?

Too much. I paid $629 for mine new.

FWIW, Ruger is 100% on taking care of the front sight issue. Had mine replaced with the new version and back to me in less than a week, totally on their dime.

There is a front sight issue ?

I was thinking of buying one...what's the issue ? Thanks
It's a MIM part, Ruger is replacing them with machined ones from what I've heard. Mine hasn't broken but if it does it's going to get a set of night sights. So far the SR1911 has been 100%. Eats everything I've ran through it.

Thanks, price too high and possible front sight problem.

Thanks

Don't let the front sight issue stop you. As I said, Ruger replaced mine with the machined one super fast, no cost.

It's a great gun, mine also eats anything I feed it. Good accuracy, shoots better than I do.

Maybe offer $550 for it?

$600 is a great deal for a quality 1911 especially in stainless steel. I have the commander model and am very happy with it. It is very accurate, reliable and comfortable to shoot. I never thought there was any problem with the sights. It hits its target...that's good enough for me.

Everything original in box with two mags. I will try tomorrow wit an offer of 550.

Comes with original stuff. I might try tomorrow with an offer of 550.

FWIW
I've put a lot of rounds through my 5" SR1911, it started out great and if anything has improved with use. I like it so much I trust my life to it on duty 40+ hours a week as an armed guard. Been shooting for 18 years and I'm definitely a 1911 guy. Solid gun.

The gun is selling all day for 6 bills , from Slick guns if you pay attention for a few days.
Get the Commander if you are carrying it, it makes it much easier, and put NS on it, then you have a great gun.

I assume this is a face 2 face sale? If you ccan get the pistol for $550, that would be a sweet deal.

The seller wants $600, you offer $550, maybe meet in the middle at $575.

I would say two things.

If you want one, get one.

If a $100 bill makes that much difference forget it.

The Coltdriver philosophy is this. It does not matter how many you own. It only matters how many you have owned. I have owned dozens, but I only have a few at any given time.

You can only shoot one at a time.:D

My personal experience with Ruger has been stellar. I have owned several from revolver to bolt to single shot. Their customer service is so good that it sets the bar for everyone else.

Just buy it and if in the end you are down even $50 it will have been the best $50 you ever spent.

The FS issue is Ruger got a bad batch from a supplier. Those got mixed into a bin with good FSs. The problem was not identified until after the guns hit the street. Ruger is correcting the problem as the sights break, as they have no way to know which guns got good sights and which guns got bad sights.
I put more than 500rds through my SR1911CMD and never had an issue with the sights. I would not let the sight issue stop me from getting one.

Pull the grips off and look at the frame. They also have a history of rust and pitting under the grips. Ruger replaced one for me for this.

This is the first time I've heard about the FS issue. My SR1911 Cmdr. Length is a great gun to shoot, so I'm not going to worry about it.

I've ran almost 3000 rds through mine. Mostly hand loads. I have had a total of zero issues with the gun doing it's part in that process. I have only seen the gun hiccup when load developing, a problem from low pressure and not the gun.
It succesfully eats rn, swc, fn, hp all without any problems.
I've never heard of the FS issue until now and have no issues with mine. If you do have a problem, I know from experiance Ruger's CS will take care of you.

New price here is $645. I've seen it as low as $625 (after I bought mine). I'd ask about $550, but I'd also go a little higher if the shop balked. I'd jump on it at $575 if I didn't already have one. I'd consider the $600 asking price, but try to haggle first.
