I recently acquired a old Hopkins & Allen (Numrich) "Off Hand" under hammer .45 muzzleloader in overall very good shape, but having a broken front globe sight and missing the receiver mount peep sight. From what's left of the globe, it looks like a Lyman 17 AML would be a perfect replacement, but I have been unable to locate anything that would be a direct replacement for the missing peep sight.

For those of you unfamiliar with this particular mode, it has a globe front sight, a fixed blade barrel mounted u-notched sight (for the close shots) and the tang mounted (actually the back end of the receiver) peep adjustable (elevation only I believe) for long shots. The peep sight looks somewhat similar to a Lyman #2, but instead of having an angled base, mounts into a single 1/4-28 tapped hole at the rear of the receiver. The hole is tapped vertically (perpendicular to the barrel, not the receiver).

I would like to locate an original peep sight, but after spending hours searching the web, all I have been able to find are a few old posts by people looking for the same thing. If anyone here on THR happens to own one of these, I would greatly appreciate some detailed pictures and or drawings to serve as a starting point for fabricating one.

Check with Numrich Arms aka: The Gun Parts Corp.. They manufactured and sold those Hopkins and Allen underhammers for many years and likely still retain the rights to that trademark. If anyone would still have parts, it'd most likely be them. Another place to check would be Dixie Gun Works. Probably the most comprehensive source for things BP still existing. Hope this is of help. Good luck in the quest.

Thanks, no luck with either of those places.... Numrich does have some H&A underhammer parts, but not the globe front or the rear peep sight for this model.

If I remember correctly, I bought a Thompson Center "Hunting Style" tang rear sight from Dixie Gun Works in 1988. My H&A came with a hooded front sight very similar to the EP0906 hooded front sight Dixie still sells.
TC rear sight is no longer in production but you might find one one the used market. There were three models of the TC rear, PN's: 7194, 7196 and 7197 for the Hawken/Renegade size rifles, The Seneca/Cherokee and the New Englander, in that order. What the differences are and which one I have, I can't say. The tang sight required me to drill and tap two holes in the H&A receiver.

Thanks Doug.

There are actually a number of currently in production receiver sights (Lyman 57SML and Williams WGRS-WR to name a couple) that will fit the curved H&A receiver, I am hunting for an original H&A "lollipop" peep sight that mounts at the very rear of the receiver in the factory drilled & tapped 1/4-28 hole, which was not present on many of the various models that Numrich produced over the years,
