What would polishing a few stainless steel revolvers do to their value?
im not too worried about hurting the value of my brand new S&W 500
but wonder about guns like my Colt Anaconda and S&W 66-2.
the standard finish is quite dull.

I'd say don't do it to those guns. If you plan on selling them, the people looking for those type guns and who would be wanting to buy them probably wouldn't want them to be polished. Now if you don't plan on selling them, that's a different story!

Mother's and a rag. I polished my 500 and was so happy with the results I'd like to polish all my ss rrevolvers.

As long as you don't get carried away, you probably won't hurt the value.

If you want to just clean and remove the dullness, apply the Mothers with your fingers. That way you won't go crazy and get too aggressive.

Polish out with a flannel cloth, and you should be good to go.

I was fearing that you planned on going-to-town with a Dremel! \

If it is is for your own enjoyment, then go ahead, but don't do this to any firearm that you plan on selling.

You probably shouldn't touch the Anaconda.

I agree.

I've used Mother's Mag on my 460, and on a Ruger SP101. Both turned out great. But if there is any chance you want to sell them, especially the Colt, don't do it other than to remove light scratches.

Unless the gun a NIB investment piece, a little hand polishing with a Mother's and a cloth won hurt much. I have hand polished my Anacondas and matte King Cobras with Mothers. It did a fine job removing the dinghy look stainless accrues over time.

Boy CONSTRICTOR, I'd sure like to see your polished 500. I walked straight away from the table that had the first one at a gun show when they first came out. Couldn't stand that Taurus grade finish. I love my Taurus pistols but want to pay Taurus prices when they look like the 500 did.

I've thought often about polishing and removing the billboard from my KingCobra. Sad the state they offer the premium stainless revolvers in these days.

If you polish the entire gun, and list it for sale, it has 0% of its original finish.
Now, if someone wants a nickel looking SS gun, you'll be ok. If they want it as close to factory as possible, you've killed it's resale.

Since I'm hanging on to my S&W revolvers and will never sell or trade them I like to polish them up a bit. In your case though I wouldn't want to take away the resale value of older guns that are out of production and highly sought after. For a less high gloss polish try using Flitz instead of Mother's Mag Polish.

I used Flitz on the Model 686 to clean up some scratches and marks. I polished the Model 649 with several applications of Mother's Mag Polish so that it has almost a nickel plated appearance.
