If you mark it ultra high because of a shortage, then it's a fair profit because that's the American way

In context, this denotes "jest in good humor", what with the propensity of some people who seem duty bound to get bent all out of shape on the subject of "hoarding", "gouging", and general .22LR conspiracy theories.

By all means, make a profit. I'll not be in the crowds of people gathering for public stonings on this.

Gander HAD 22 mini-mag for $7.99/100 in their sale ad this morning. Went online when I brought in the paper at 8am and ordered my limit of 5. Went back in at 10:00 just to look OUT OF STOCK.

A thing is worth what a willing buyer will offer and what a willing seller will accept. If someone wants $100 a box for .22 LR -- and I'm fool enough to pay that price -- then he and I have agreed that is what it's worth.

I agree with Vern on this. Be it a gun or box of ammunition or box of corn flakes. If someone is selling a brick (500 rounds) of Remington Thunderbolts for $75 and I buy it content with that price then I am happy and the seller is happy so no harm and no foul. Really matters not what anyone else may think. Nobody twisted my arm to buy the stuff, I bought it of my own free will. So think what you will of the seller while I am out shooting my overpriced Remington Thunderbolts.

I could and should have sold it for more. I put it on Gunbroker and it went at teh buy-it-now price. Still, I got like $0.11 for Rem Golden Bullets.

I just had to wait about a year to turn around and buy CCI StdVel/M.Mags for less.

Things are looking better...may be

Watching wikiarms this past week, saw .22 ammo as low as $.05 rd / Federal. Also saw Goose Island that advertised everything at $.12/rd and up had some for $.10 and .11 Makes you wonder if they are getting afraid of getting stuck with inventory or are sales down. Ordered from Gander 500rds of MiniMags at .$08 last Sunday, pick up later this week to replace some or what I shot the past two weeks.

I have seen 22 on the shelves of several big box and LGS regularly over the past month. It sells quick even with the purchase limits, but, the fact is, it is being delivered. This is a far cry from where we were a year ago.

Was hoping this was more about .22 shooting, not prices. What happened to buying what your gun likes?
I'm shooting Wolf, Eley, and Winchester Wildcats out of t-bolt and 9422. The subsonic stuff is most accurate and quiet. This is what matters to me, NOT price.

This thread was started at the height of the .22LR shortage, which, at the time, was a lot more "newsworthy" than is simply shooting rimfire guns. It was created to help members share info about when and where they could acquire rimfire ammunition, and to stop the countless separate threads that were being started prior.

As such ammo continues to trickle into regular availability, the thread will likely become less active. But, it was never meant to be a "shooting .22LR-chambered firearms" thread.

What you've come to share is more appropriate for the "Rifle Country" or "General Gun" boards.

i just got shipping notice on 10 boxes of CCI MiniMags that I ordered on 3/31/2014... I got $9.20 a box invested... If I put them on facebook for that much people would rip me wide open and call me the dirtiest SOB thats ever walked the face of the earth... LOL..

depends on the FB group. .10 a round is common price there as well when I find them in the ones I frequent

I ordered (okay, backordered) five 100-round sleeves of CCI MiniMags and one 325-round can of Federal Champion from Midway in November of 2013. In August of this year, I got notice that the CCI stuff has come in and is ready to ship. I deferred shipment until the Fed comes in, but it is extremely unlikely that will happen before the year-long limit on backorders times out. When that time-out happens, the CCI will ship alone.

I saw a sign at a local Walmart re 22 ammo that was new to me

They have a sign posted stating that all 22 ammo will be put out on Saturday mornings at 9 AM and limits will apply. No chance in Hades that I will be there to buy ammo but maybe this will slow down the scalpers that people seem to think are buying all the ammo.

They've had limits for a while near me. Ever since 2008 Wal-mart had a policy of no more than 3 boxes of ammo per day.

With the recent .22LR shortage they expanded that such that the 3 box limit applied to boxes of 50 or less .22LR, while anything over 50 had a 1-box limit.

In general though, .22LR has been much more available lately. I think I've managed to purchase 8 boxes of 50, 2 boxes of 100, and 1 brick of 333 in the last few months just by randomly lucking into them at the store. A Saturday shipment of .22LR ammo actually made it to Tuesday before selling out about a month ago.

When the ammo is unavailable, or the price is too high, there isn't much shooting.

I bought a case of Sellier & Bellot for around $500, including shipping. It's good ammo, functions my Colt Woodsman, Service Ace Conversion and Ruger MK II, shoots accurately and is more reliable than any bulk ammo I happen to have on my basement shelves.

I mentioned earlier I have two cases of .22 Wildcat squirreled away. I used to watch for sales at Rose's, a chain in Virginia, and when they'd advertise .22 Wildcat for less than $1.00 a box, I'd buy a case for under $100.

When whatever-I-can-get costs five times that much, I'd say that rates a few lines of discussion.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy whatever I want regardless of the price.

That's why I don't go out and shoot a few hundred rounds of Black Hills mk262 every week, for example.

All the Walmarts near me too (although that restriction has been lifted for everything but .22LR).

As for announcing a time, I haven't seen that before. I think there's good and bad to that. It's good for the casual buyer who can't wait outside the store every morning before it opens in hopes that there's ammo available. But at the same time, now everyone will be at the same store at the same time for the same limited ammo. No chance to get lucky and happen upon a late shipment being unloaded (which has been the only way I've been lucky enough to get .22 ammo the past 18 months). If they really want to 'discourage' scalpers, they should make a concerted effort to randomized when the ammo goes on the shelves. Not even the most dedicated scalper can be there all day every day.

Since you are here in Alabama I have to ask what store was this at?

I was just in my local Walmart a couple of weekends ago and happened upon the clerk who was unloading boxes of ammo into the case, including 22LR... she let me buy 3 bricks of 225 rounds - score!!

I'm guessing North Huntsville. I was in there yesterday while waiting to go back to my son's school and overheard a manager ask the sporting goods guy if he knew the new deal about .22 ammo.
