I have a Smith 67-1 with square butt and am going to change out the stock wood grips (which slip in my hand) for some Hogue or Pachmayr grips. Any suggestions on which to get?

Hogue Tamers.....

In 2006 I bought a Hogue Tamer grip for my Ruger GPNY .38spl revolver.
The rubber grip had a extra insert that helped absorb recoil. It worked great. :D
Id always suggest Hogue for any revolver or semi auto grip. The company was started by Guy Hogue, a retired LAPD officer & dept armorer who started with a small shop in southern CA. His sons now run the family business & it's become a shooting sports/gun industry leader for grips & accessories.

Another source for wood revolver grips is Craig Spegel, www.CraigSpegel.com of OR. He designed & marketed the popular "boot grip" J frame grip. He also does S&W revolvers & a few pistols like the Hi Power/1911.

Being a .38 spl the 67 doesn't have a lot of recoil but as you say the typical S&W grips standard to this model are small and slip more easily in your hand. I like the more traditional style of the Pachmayer Presentation grips for shooting and that's what my 67 most often wears. I have tried many other grips like S&W target grips from my M19 and Pachmayer American Legend that is wood with finger grip rubber insert both of which look very nice if you like wood.

The picture below is the small size Pachmayer Presentation grips which work for me best with light recoiling guns and the large size I use for Magnums.

I know Hogue does more advertizing but I'm not a fan. I do however like most of the Pachmayr grip designs. The price of the Pachmayr grips is also lower than the Hogue grips.

For a K/L frame I would buy either the Gripper Grips or the Decelerator Grips. I put a set of Gripper Grips on my M686 and they work very well for me.

Craig Spegel grips....

NOTE:
I checked the Spegel website & he posted a notice saying he is no longer accepting new orders for custom grips/handgun items.

Pachmayr's tend to be pretty big, IME (especially those Presentations Steve C showed) - good if you've got big paws. If not, look for something with an exposed backstrap.

Didn't Pachmayr make two different sizes of Presentation grips? I have large and medium for my N frames and my Python, but I don't know if they were made for the K frame.

They only make one size now.

My 5 ft-2 inch wife likes the Presentation Grips on her S&W 586. Small hands are necessarily a disqualifyer, just whether the grips work with the shooter.

With the square butt, I like the Presentation grips. With the round butt K Frames, I have gone to the Pachmyar Gripper models as the Presentation Grips currently available do not fit the round butt well.

I do not have any experience with Hogue revolver grips but their semi-auto pistol grips work well for me and are well made.

Yes, 4 inch Model 67 will absorb the recoil well from about any 38 Special round.

I put Pachmayer pres. grips on a Ruger Sec. six and I like them over Hogue buy far.

I believe years ago Pachmayr use to make a couple of different sizes in the Presentation grips (small, medium, large?), for K frames. Maybe check online or at some of the local gun shows for the size that fits you best.

I have handled both the Pachmayrs and Hogues, and the Hogue felt nicer to me.
They are a bit tackier though, so they could stick to clothing on the draw if you are carrying under a cover garment.

I would handle both in person if you can, because it will all come down to hand fit.

I went with Hogue wood grips, and they have improved my shooting significantly.
The ergonomics are excellent for me.

I carried a 67 as a service weapon back in my earliest days in law enforcement. It was a great gun once I put the Pachmayrs on it. I don't know what they're named, but I went with ones that had the finger indentations in the front, not the ones pictured in post 3.

Shot very well with that gun.
