I have a Marlin Model 25 - 22lr. rifle. Until recently, I've only shot it with the original iron sights. Being 66, that doesn't work so well any more. I slapped a red dot on it recently and was getting dime sized groups at about 40 yards. I was impressed. I think I'd like to get a variable power scope for it and see what the gun can really do. I know there are people who say that any scope under $250 is junk. The gun is only worth $200 max.. I'm hoping that one of our members knows of a decent scope for a .22 that is around $100. All suggestions will be researched and appreciated. Thank you.

I've had a Marlin .22LR for decades with a cheap Tasco 3x7 Variable on it that will shoot better than I ever will. Its a good plinker and small game hunter that puts them where I point them and a setup that has seen a lot of use over those years. Don't over think it. Try one,. adjust for parallax and go shooting.
Enjoy that rifle.

I've been called a scope snob numerous times on this site.
But I do have a few sub $100. scopes on some of my rimfires.

I have a Marlin 25 MN that wears a 35 year old Weaver worth far less than a hundred bucks.

Also have a 10/22 that wears a twenty five year old Swift 4x32 that I think set me back less than $40.

Couple weeks ago, shot an old Marlin 60 that wore some sort of BSA.
Can't say how long any scope will last, but have to admit I was rather impressed with the optics of that BSA for what it cost him.

Some folks like the Simmons Rimfire scope. Either Natchez or Midway has Weaver Kaspa on sale with side focus. Nitrex scopes on close out at Natchez are very good for the money. On the Rimfire forum the Mueller with side focus is popular. Nikon has a good Rimfire scope. Be sure you get a Rimfire scope or one that has parallax adjustment. It is possible to adjust centerfire scopes for Rimfire but it can ruin the scope. Air rifle, scopes can be used but some are extremely poor quality, never buy anything GAMO.

I used a Simmons 22 mag variable scope on my CZ 452 today. The old Bushnell scope fogged up on me. The scope worked well. Clear and focused well. Able to shoot out bullseye at 25 yards. It should stand up to 22lr use. For a cheap scope it is pretty good but then maybe I just got lucky.

I've had good luck with the Simmons .22 Mag variable, both with and without parallax adjustments. I don't intend to be twirling dials for every shot, and the maximum range hunting has been between 40-50 yards. The little Simmons actually looks like it belongs on a .22 rifle. A lot of others look like you're set up for Bench-rest competition, with a scope almost as large as the gun. :D

I'm in favor of adjustable-objective (AO) scopes for rimfire because they let you shoot at short distance without parallax problems.

I've use Simmons scopes -- kind of an entry-level scope, but they work:

If you don't want super-zoom (and I usually don't) but want adjustable objective, you can't go wrong with a 4X Hawke:

I've also used Mueller APVs, and they're fantastic for the price:

Another whole step up in quality (and price) is the Weaver:

I have a Bushnell 4x32 fixed rimfire scope that cost me all of $25 from the Wally World. It's on a Marlin 795, and I've not had a problem out of it. It's clear enough to see my shots at 50 yards, and they also have a 3-9x32. I was wary, but it had a really good review at Chuckhawks, so I took the plunge and I've been very happy. I wouldn't bang it around much, and I've never used it in a hunting situation, so I can't speak to its light transmission or fog resistance, but for a range optic, I couldn't really be happier. And I'm someone who is fairly prejudice against cheap optics.

The Marlin model 25 was my first rifle, bought it when i was 18. Didn't have a lot of money then, so I bought a $6 Tasco from Wal Mart. It looks like it belongs on the rifle, and shoots good enough for a .22. I've been happy with it for almost 15 years.

Here is another vote for the Simmons 22 MAG with AO. Decent rimfire scope for the money. I have a couple of them. The next step up cost wise is the Muller APV, also have a couple of those. I think you would be happy with either one
