I remember reading all about how Century's guns were crap two years ago (the ones they built, not the ones they just import), particularly their HK/Cetme clones and FALs. Now, I'm kind of seeing a lot of newer and much nicer guns they're putting out, in gun stores and in reviews people have made. I'm curious if this is just the perception I'm getting or if their quality really has gone up.

I think most people who trash century never shot one. Personally i have had several of their rifles and though there fot and finish isn't as nice as guns choosing 2x the price personally i have never had any issues.

I have a Century WASR 10/63 that has none of the defects people complain about WASRs having (crooked sights, lots of mag wobble, etc.), my only complaint is the handguard gets hot really fast, although AKs are known for that anyway

I just bought a GP-1975 that was a lemon. The rifle would seize up after every shot, hard enough that I had to tap open the bolt with a hammer. If I understand right, this was because the gas tube was not welded on straight. I have no idea how that gun made it out their door - it certainly could not have passed a test firing.

Luckily I had a warranty for it. Customer service was awful, and it took two months for the gun to get fixed. I'm glad that I now have a rifle that works, but I am definitely disappointed in Century.

What part are you talking about? Gas tubes/blocks aren't welded on?

Doubt it. Still have never seen a functioning Cetme. The Golani I bought was the biggest piece of junk I've ever bought. Unbelievable so.

Century does not make guns. They contract out.

The SAR1 i had came with the crappy trigger by CAI (thanks to Clinton's 6 parts needed to be sold in the American market). After 1000 plus round s the time to change to Tapco G2 came about. After that it was as good as any AK should be.

I bought one of their CETME's when they first came out and it has been a fine rifle in every way(except it's extremely loud). I also have a M70AB2 Yugo that I'm just as happy with. That being said, I do remember SEEING many CETME rifles with serious problems, such as misaligned parts welded together, bolts ground down to make them "fit", and other such nonsense. I think I got lucky on the CETME, but I feel like Century had turned a corner around the time I bought the Yugo and have been doing much better ever since. I'm certain they are still putting out the occasional lemon, but that's much better that putting out an occasional "working" rifle. I would suggest looking over any firearm you intend to buy if at all possible.

Well let me help then:

There's one.

Century I was never as bad as the Internet would have you believe, and they aren't good either.

They are, at this point, a pretty known quantity. If yo buy a gun from them you may very well have to work on it a bit. If you don't have that skillset, or desire, you might want to look elsewhere. If you do, you can save some money.

I just bought an N-PAP from them

and it is more than what I could have hoped for. The wood is extremely nice and the gun is solid and straight, no bent sights here. Their Centurion is high on my list for guns to get in the near future.

Bought a Century WASR for a friend of mine a few years back. No problems with the mechanicals of the rifle but when I got it home and inspected it more thoroughly I found a crack in the stock. Contacted Century and they sent me a new unfinished stock that I had to fit to the gun and finish myself.

My Golani... Great shooter. Lets me keep my original Galil in the safe.

C93 rifles: liked the first one so much I bought two more, and a C93 pistol that's now a SBR. Let's me keep my original HK rifles in the safe.

A few of their AK's have passed thru here. Zero complaints.

Color Willie satisfied.

fwiw 5 or so years ago I bought a century built ak74. the only problems it had were a weak hammer spring and a canted front sight.

I've only ever had a few guns that wouldnt work. They were mostly Century.

One WASR that had too small gas port which caused short cycling and it had canted sights.

One Golani that wouldnt cycle and required a mallet to remove the dust cover, also it was sent back once for heavily canted front sight.

Another was a second Golani that required sending back due to the sights being drifted fully to one side and still not getting on paper. ( I told them to keep it / refund me, it was the second lemon in a row)

One Century cast FAL that had NO pin under the gas adjuster...

So yeah, I will buy Century imported guns, but never again will I order Century built (or contracted) rifles. Not one good experience yet.

Probably true, in part. A great number of people who trash Century have never shot one - doesn't mean that they haven't owned one nor that they haven't tried to shoot it.

I can't begin to recall the number I've seen through the shop that never got one single round off.

Were they in any other business... they wouldn't be in business.

They're not all bad, my WASR works like a charm, with parts guns though i would still agree it's better to look them over and if possible test fire them before buying, rather that gambling on ordering one

I've owned several. I won't own any more.

They've always been hit or miss. I have a C91 (G3) that runs fine and is capable of surprising accuracy. I had a WASR that was rough but totally reliable. I bought a PSL that was nicely built and shot great, then had to exchange it over the thrid hole nonsense, and the replacement looked like it was built by one-eyed monkeys.

Best advice is don't order a CAI sight-unseen; inspect the weapon carefully with your own two hands and eyes before buying.

^^^ This!
Do your homework and know what to look for.

CAI RPK that has the front sight so far off true that the rile couldn't be zeroed. Classic Arms exchanged it for me.

Ever since CAI went to a 1 year* warranty on their product I can't recommend them. Too high a chance of getting stuck with a lemon.

All firearms/receivers sold as “new”, or manufactured/assembled by Century have a (1) year repair/replacement warranty from date the firearm/receiver was shipped from Century’s warehouse to the original purchaser. Repairs or replacements are determined at Century’s discretion. The (1) year period does not start over if a firearm is repaired and reshipped.
