That's a pretty fantastic revolver in exchange for a decent, but unexceptional auto pistol.

Everything comes down to money, though, to most folks. Here's a 586 that sounds similar to the one you're looking at on GunBroker: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=448460303

Don't know that they'll get $950 for it, but that's what their min bid is.
+1. The 586 is a great revolver. If it is in even just good condition, I would consider it a fair trade. If it is in great condition, you are getting the better part of the deal.

I would make that trade provided that the Model 586 checked out okay. You would be getting a great revolver for a Glock that you don't use very much.

The original S&W M586 is probably my favorite DA .357 Magnum. A brand new G35 on Bud's Gun Shop is going for $635. I'm guessing your used G35 is worth ~$500 and most of the M586 revolvers on Gunbroker have an opening bid of $600 and up. It looks like cash wise you are on the better end of the deal but gun for gun I think you are getting way better a deal with the M586. I would do that deal as long as the M586 is in good mechanical condition to match that 95% cosmetic condition.

I'm going to say that you should make the trade.
Both are good guns.
A good S&W 586 is a lot harder to come by than a Glock anything.
That right there is a very good reason to make the trade. While S&W did bring back the M586 it's not exactly the same as the originals and the originals are very good revolvers. The only reason I don't have one is when I see one for sale the price is usually higher than I'm willing to pay.

I agree with everyone else, it's a great trade for you (assuming the 586 checks out OK).
Another plus is that it's the more practical (IMO) 4" barrel rather than the more common 6". I had a 586 with a 6" barrel, and it was nice, but sold it because I preferred the 4" barrel, and I already had a GP100 with a 6" barrel.
ONE smokewagon was plenty !!! :D

thanks for all the input seems like its a good trade, sounds like the 586 is a solid 357,
If it works out I will post some pictures for you all

well I did it here is some pictures I almost for got what American steel feels like as I have been shooting glocks and the type of autos for so long

Everyone needs a 4" 357. Master a DA revolver and everything else Is easy.

Oh man, that is one nice chunk of S&W iron you got there!

Like ArchAngel, I've always wanted a 586 but the prices have always been higher than I'd like. And I do already have a 686.
I forgot to mention I also have a M686. Mine is a M686-2 and it's a great revolver.

OP, that is a VERY nice M586 you got there! You did very well IMO and like we already said, the Glock is still being made.

This is done but I thought I'd share my trade philosophy. I have traded probably 200+ guns through the years and my take is that if folks both walk away happy it was a good trade. I've made "money" on some, lost "money" on others but I have always been happy...

And, if that 586 gets to feeling to HUGE in your hands, you can always swap it for a 66.

The smaller hand guys are more into K-frames, in general. LOVE my 66 and 67!

Congrats on your trade. An awesome deal. My Glocks are home defense and glove box guns; easy to shoot, reliable, lots of ammo. My S&W's are for the range. Sweet and accurate, bringing smiles and compliments along the firing line. And, they help you keep track of your brass!

I had problems controlling my SW 586 6" until I swapped the Goncalo Alves wood for some cheap Hogue rubber grips. Made the gun more slender while helping to control recoil better. I'm keeping the wood grips with the gun, but the rubber grips are for shooting.
