Top ten annoying gun things

Posts like the OP:

Feeling the need to complain about other people who are *gasp* interested in things you aren't.

Only your firearm-related interests are legitimate.

I mean, if you complained about "magazines" versus "clips," fine; you're obsessive-compulsive. Whatever. Instead, though, you're literally complaining that other people like things that you don't. Get over it.

Threads like this one.

Feeling the need to complain about (and have others confirm) other people who are *gasp* interested in things you aren't.

Only your firearm-related interests are legitimate.
I hope you see the irony

That little, hard-to-get-to gap on a revolver under the topstrap, above the barrel.

There is nothing wrong with having a bipod on a 16" bbl'd rifle if you are going for maximum stability. It has nothing to do with being unwieldy, most can simply use a bipod more effectively than prone unsupported.

Now zombie guns... those draw my ire but other than that, I can't think of many other annoying gun things. It's whatever floats your boat IMHO, just no zombie guns. Grow up LOL!

1. CCW "badges."

2. automobile bumper stickers that say (essentially) "I have a gun."

3. targets that look like identifiable people/politicians.

4. t-shirts that say "I have a gun."

5. waist packs on grown adult white males, which say "I have a gun."

6. "zombie" ammo

7. novelty 12-gauge rounds (rubber balls, chains, etc.)

8. bayonets for pistols

9. the word "tactical"

10. different state standards for firearms design/capacity/safety

People who look down their noses at others because of some harmless choice. If someone wants a purple gun that's their business.

People who condemn others by calling them a hillbilly. That stereotype needs to go away. I live in hillbilly country. I always have pretty much except for a few years a long time ago. The people in the area are no less cultured than many city dwellers. The whole idea that being a hillbilly means you're toothless, inbred and ignorant comes out of sheer arrogance. See point #1 about looking down your nose at others for no good reason. One of the top opera singers in the world, Kathleen_Battle, grew up not far from me. If that isn't "cultured" enough for the uppity class I don't know what is.

There are things that irk me because I think they give gun owners a bad reputation but this is America. I won't put anyone down for what they choose to do as long as it doesn't affect me. But there are some choices that do affect me like those that choose to carry long guns openly in malls just to get attention thinking they are fighting for the cause. They probably do think that but they show up looking like a combination of playing Rambo and dressing like the Duck Dynasty crowd. They come off looking like some video gamer gone all Columbine or on the verge of it anyway. I'm all in favor of freedom. But please realize you are doing damage to the cause.

I do have one pet peeve. People who want to put you down because you shoot better than they do. From being called a liar on the net to being told at the range that shooting a target at 25 yards with a pistol is a waste of time since confrontations occur at 7 yards it all boils down to plain old jealousy. I can't help it if I can shoot better than you. Well I could but I won't. And I am not the best shot in the world. I just shoot pretty well and I get tired of being slammed because of it. I don't shoot to impress you. I don't say things to make me look better than you. I'm sure you can do other things better than me. I just grew up shooting and I learned from a bunch of really good shooters at a very early age. But too often some guy who bought his first gun last week thinks you can't do what you know you did do and calls you a liar for saying what you did. I just wish these jokers would stop by the house some day for a lesson on how to shoot (not at them of course).

Come to think of it wasn't...

My top ten annoying firearm things

8. The Doomsday Prepper: grown-up version of Zombocalypse Kid. (Do you think fifteen Beta mags in my bug out bag are enough?)

Come to think of it wasn't a Noah the first Prepper?

And everyone made fun of him until things got too wet.

Guess I'm in good company.

From this, you can probably tell that, as a machine gun owner, one of my top ten annoyances is people wanting to shoot my guns. In the past, every time I have let them do it, I have regretted it.

I completely understand this. I do all the reloading for ours and most of the time when we take it out to the local range it is for testing. We might be trying out a new load, may have just changed a part on the gun, or may be just trying to troubleshoot something that's acting up. If you're watching, I know. If you are studying the gun, trying to learn the mechanics, or even voicing observations that may (or may not) help, chances are I'm going to give you a belt of 50 to run. Part of the fun of having the gun is to see people light up with the "machine gun grin" after the first time they fire it.

But to just come up and say "Cool gun. Mind if I shoot it some?" - that just isn't right. At that point, we will be waiting for the zombies, too.

Internet threads where the OP asks "Please help me decide between gun A, gun B, or gun C".

Then HK, Glock, and/or Colt fanatics answer their gun... which was not on the list or, worse, specifically excluded.

Pretty much none of the other stuff mentioned on this thread bothers me at all. I'm a real "live and let live" kinda guy.

EDIT: OH, I have one. Cleaning all freaking nine chambers on my Taurus .22 after using really, really dirty ammo. Takes forever.

Hunters who think they need a scope for deer hunting when the longest shot they will ever take is less than 100 yards.

Even with my glasses on, I prefer not to shoot much further than 50 yards with iron sights. Slightly blurry plus colorblind makes for unsure shots in woods at longer distances (relatively).

My pet peeve, especially on this forum, is the people who use slang terms: boolits for bullets, Remmy for Remington, Winnie for Winchester, shotty for shotgun, etc. Call things by their proper names, please!

Flash hiders on a Ruger 10-22
Yep, forgot that one.....sure sign that the owner is "tacticool" and that I don't want to shoot around them for my own safety.

Flash hiders are now standard on a particular model of 10/22 and were included to protect the muzzle in the prone position, particularly for beginning shooters performing an Appleseed shoot.

Assumption of a "tacticool" shooter as a safety issue doesn't make much sense, either.

People you don't know who at the range are dying to find out what you own/shoot/load, etc., so they can immediately tell you what they think is wrong with it. Particularly when they don't know what the *$#& they're talking about.

The first thing that popped into my mind is - the gun control act of 1986...
I don't have a problem with guns overloaded with tactical stuff. It lets you know who to avoid talking to at the range.

I myself do not quite get why a .22 LR rifle needs a flash suppresor.

Now a .22 win mag, sure, but .22 LR? That is such a low power round... I mean come on.

Only two really ..maybe 3

I concede to each his own..but some things rankle me a bit...I live with it

1) Guys that are decked out in Tommy Tactical gear at the range..makes me laugh. Indoor range and one handgun split between 2 or 3 guys.

2) The guy in the next stall shoot a .44 magnum with PLUS loads...not really caring what he hits ..just likes the boom. Then switches to his AR-15 with no muzzle break....really ?

3) 12 lanes open, I am in lane 2 and guy with a shotgun has to grab lane 3...really ? Its like 5 empty stalls in a bathroom and a guy has to come stand next to you...there is a sequence to this...LOL

Not being safe angers and annoys me.

Another "gun thing" that rather annoys me is this:

"The only thing that's stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun".

If I hear or read that one more time, I swear I'm going to.....
Forget how to read and listen.

I get it and I understand it but at the repetition and frequency I hear it is almost at a cult like level.

By the way, there are some good laughables in the previous posts.

Unsafe gun handling is 1-10 on my list.

I can't go to a gun store, or a gun counter in a store, or the range, without having guns pointed at me (by people holding said guns in their hands).

Often times their finger is also on the trigger.

It's freaking disgusting that we can't get this right.

So I'm guessing this wouldn't be the OP's favorite rifle.:D

Whatever. I like it, only thing that matters.

That's the only thing that really matters with most of this.

Personally I find most pretend play where adults dress the part to be pretty freaking stupid, but if they aren't bothering me or flagging me or mine or doing something unsafe what do I care what people do or how they dress or shoot? I don't.

General gun related topics & peeves....

I have a few things that irk me or push my buttons;
1) Gun owners or CCW holders who name their carry guns or use them in a personal sense. Do you name your car? Do you name your garden rake? Do you name your flat screen TV?
2) Gun owners/new shooters who buy low end/awful brands or cheap firearms then act like they are smart or "prepared".
A few weeks ago, I read a national media(NBC TV news) article about a special needs teacher in Utah who decided to learn about guns & get a new CCW. This young woman, a BA holder & certified educator buys a Jennings nickel .22LR then names it(because it was so "cute", :barf: ). These are the people walking around with loaded guns.
If I knew the young special ed teacher, Id quietly take her aside & explain how the guy who R&Ded the Jennings pistols is now a registered sex offender & felon(Bruce Lee Jennings). He was caught on child porn charges.
3) Gunners & gun forum "experts" who think everyone who uses open carry or wears a gun logo shirt/ball cap/5.11 vest is a target or will be violently attacked at any moment.
Look, just cause your "switched on" and see a 5.11 logo or LaRue Tactical bottle opener doesn't mean that Bumpy Johnson with a 15 page rap sheet will know or care about that either. Just wearing milspec gear or patriotic shirts/hats doesn't mean you claim to be a SEAL or tier one operator.
Many armed professionals or CCW holders/target shooters use patches/stickers/logos/clothing. It's trendy but harmless.
If you think I'm concerned with a "follow home" robbery or attack because of a NRA ball cap or a Glock T shirt, I'm not. If I were robbed there'd be a good chance Bumpy will see more than a logo or cap. ;)
4) I agree with the magazine vs clip dispute. It's a term. Some people use slang or they hear a phrase & it's common. I wouldn't get to upset over it. NRA web personality & gun owner: "Colin Noir" gets uptight over the phrases but I'm not that concerned.
5) I could keep going, but I'll end with a annoying one: the non gun owners or citizens without CCWs who say; "You(the license holder/armed security/cop) can't do that here! The law in ___ says that's illegal/not allowed." You(the license holder/armed citizen) say; "We are in ___. You need to learn the laws or statues of this state."
I go by the laws & ordinances of my area, I don't follow or care what gun laws in AZ/NY/MI/HI/Guam/American Somoa/etc are.
