I was reading the Game regulations and noticed there is no handgun hunting for bear legal in KY yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for going about getting this legalized? I of course am a strong advocate of using plenty enough gun but I'd also really really like to see this legal in the very near future. Archery equipment legal for deer is also legal for bear here so I want to see handgun hunting made legal asap. Whose with me and who has suggestions?
Thanks everyone.

Thanks are you allowed to hunt bears with archery equipment down there? I wonder why archery equipment is legal for 'em here but not handguns.

I thought about posting this in Activism but I guess what I was getting at was wanting to get the laws changed in regards to this but wasn't sure who to contact or how to go about it and was seeking advice.

Does your state have yearly conservation meetings open to the public? I would like to see a handgun season for deer coincide with muzzle loader season here in Wisconsin. This would be for straight-walled handgun calibers and using iron sights only. I have been going to the yearly spring conservation hearings here for years and voicing my interest. This is where they take input from private citizens. Each year there seems to be more interest from those on the board and other private citizens.

We have annual commission meetings, this is when hunters and activists alike make their propositions and arguments. And if enough of you make your proposals, and then present them with an intelligent and well prepared argument, things can change, we've seen some very positive changes in my state using this approach. You don't necessarily have to have a biologist or other experts assessment, that aspect is often performed in advance by the G&F people and other concerned parties when the required annual herd counts and well being assessments are performed. So just being there to state your proposal with your fellow hunters can be enough to get them to take notice, and with a sincere approach.

It also helps immensely when well known and respected outfitters are willing to present the positive impact such changes can have by increasing sales of tags , licenses. And also, all the other positive economic impacts that can be inspired by hunters spending more money in the communities during each season. People tend to take more interest when we start talking money, so by doing a bit of research as to how much other states have benefited by making / changing various aspects of hunt regulations can be very useful also.
