Can the Eotech justify it's $350 premium compared to the Vortex? It would be paired with an Eotech EXPS3-0.

Is that EXPS3-0 the standard height model or the 7mm raised base model?

I only ask because I was looking into that very Vortex for my 7mm raised base 517 and per the Vortex manual, the shim plate for the VMX-3T only adds 3mm in height.

From the manual here - http://www.vortexoptics.com/uploads/web_manual_red-dot_vmx-3.pdf

"Absolute Co-Witness Height with Flip Mount

Positions the VMX-3T at 37 mm from the base surface to the center of the optic. This puts the dot height at a center (absolute) sight picture when co-witnessed with standard AR-15 iron sights. For this height, do not install the included shim plate.

Lower 1/3 Co-Witness Height with Flip Mount and Shim Plate

Positions the VMX-3T at 40 mm from the base surface to the center of the optic. This puts the dot height at a lower 1/3 sight picture when co-witnessed with standard AR-15 iron sights. For this height, install the included shim plate between the VMX-3T and the Flip Mount"

If your EOTech matches up to that 37mm or 40mm in the specs, it sounds like the Vortex is worth a try.

I'd probably do it myself if it would work with my 517. I mean, just popping on that magnifier for range fun or non-home defense work would seem like it would be worth the money. Vortex has a good reputation for their optics in that price range.
