2A Wins and Losses

Here in my little world in Ohio we maintained the status quot which is a good thing. Really for intensive purposes nothing changed. So far so good so I am happy.

RE Colorado...Hick did not win by much and I hope that sends a very clear message to the delusional 1-2% voting 3rd parties that the "punishment" vote is often more important than the "heart" vote. Like it or not it is a 2 party system...voting Libertarian/Green/Constitution/whatever is like choosing Poland as your starting country in a game of Axis and Allies.

From a great night, including my home state, this was the saddest news. Still love you Washington guys, You will eventually turn it around.

Possibly, but not until after some innocent people become insta-felons and/or have their livelihoods destroyed defending themselves in court because they went plinking with a buddy, loaned their hunting rifle to a buddy, or showed their new pistol to their buddy at home.

Work is moving me away from WA in a month, probably permanently. After last night I'm beginning to think that's a good thing, with the way I-594 is worded I wouldn't bet against getting charged because the wife and I both have the safe combo.

Washington now has the most restrictive transfer/background-check law in the nation. HUGE loss of the2a rights there, and the message was sent that laws can be purchased by a few wealthy people. By the math about 15% of the population actually voted for it but thanks to an incredibly low voter turnout we are stuck with it unless it can be overturned

It was actually only about 10% of the eligible voting population... 15% of registered voters.

Edit: Sorry, I rechecked my numbers and was wrong. It shook out like this:

18.5% of registered voters

14.0% of population eligible to vote

10.4% of population

I'll be more interested when the Colorado state legislature draws up a repeal of the bills Hick (supposedly regrets he) signed, and plops them down on his desk. Nothing wrong with a flip-flopping politician, so long as you make sure to flop him back when he stupidly flips ;). If Hick is not forced to confront his gun votes, with his narrow victory rubbed in his face as a threat for the remainder of his term, he (and others) will have learned nothing except that Bloomberg can guarantee their candidacy no matter how much they go against their constituents.

FWIW, I live in TX, but grew up in WA and love the state dearly (no jobs in the good parts, though), and one day dream of moving to CO with its thriving aerospace industry in beautiful places. Both are bittersweet destinations for the moment, though.

California stayed with Brown, however I'm not sure if the man with a "R" next to his name would have been much better. Brown has been a bit surprising and friendly towards the RKBA crowd at times.

Word is still out on DeMaio and Peters. Only a few hundred votes separate them. I expect that to go on a few more days and then a couple of recounts.

In southwestern Illinois, the congressional seat formerly held for a long time by Jerry "Jesus Christ" Costello had a Soc. Sec. shill "planted" in the position as his replacement two years ago.
Yesterday, he LOST to Republican Mike Bost. :D

Now the bad news.

"Tricky Dicky" Durbin is still a senator. :fire: :cuss:

Also, here in St. Clair county, there is the county's election board. There is a separate election board for East St. Louis. As of Tuesday night at 11:20, ESL had reported ZERO results!
In the morning's local paper, the "R" opponent to state senator James Clayborne was LEADING. By tonight, with the final results of the ESL "cadaver vote" in, Clayborne was re-elected. :banghead:
(Clayborne is the yaahoo who threw his weight around with his son's school district when said "angel" caused some trouble. He is also the one who has gotten at least two of his female "friends" state jobs, violating state law to do so.)

Illinois remains pretty much the same hellhole it has been for the last 40 years. :barf:

Have got a few anti-gun fliers from Kay Hagen in my mailbox demonizing Tom Tillis and his "Lack of gunsense."

Tom Tillis won the race by a hair.

"Durbin is still a senator"
Yeah, I thought that was weird, too, since I could have swore he said he wouldn't seek another term a year or two ago

Live in CO now. Hickenlooper is a mushy wet rag. Since he has no convictions, it's hard to even hang an "anti gun" label on him. It would give him too much credit of conviction.

Sadly, 2A didn't figure much in the election. The furor was kind of spent in the recall elections (both of which reverted to Dems). Republicans picked up the Senate and made gains in the House. The whole State ticket, bar Hickenlooper, went Republican, and Udall got sent his marching orders. Gardner is a prairie dog shooter and solidly pro 2A.

Colorado's brain fart gun control law was event driven (Aurora). The recalls sent the message. CO Dems are pretty unlikely to touch gun control again for a while.

In Washington, five billionaires – Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Steve Ballmer and Nick Hanauer – poured a total of more than $5 million into the promotion of expanded background checks in Washington state. These left wing mega-billionaires who seek to destroy the Second Amendment will now have other States in their sights, such as Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, etc.

They can throw hundreds of millions of $$$$ in funded anti-gun organizations and lying ads to achieve their goals, and it won't even make a dent in their unimaginable wealth.

The gun grabbing wannabee dictators never, ever disengage. :fire:

In NYS, Cuomo, outside of NYC which he was expected to win, only won 11 of the 57 other counties. Unfortunately, they were populous ones which were enough for the win.

I think Astorino did darn good in a state which, outside of Westchester county where he was from, barely knew his name before last year.

As an Alabamian, I find Amendment 1 to be even more interesting than 3 ("strict scrutiny" on gun law).

Statewide Amendment 1: Called “The American and Alabama Laws for Alabama Courts Amendment,” Amendment 1 relates to the application of foreign law during the legal process involving an Alabama citizen. Foreign law refers to the laws of other countries or cultures. Currently, judges or other legal authorities discern whether foreign law is applied. Amendment 1 would create constitutional protection that foreign law is not applied if it violates the guaranteed rights of Alabama citizens.

One report says the Left Liberals who admire the Wise Leaders of Europe and the allegedly Moderate Muslims who want sharia to rule us infidels are really bent out of shape over an explicit statement that foreign law does not apply in at least part of the USA.

Florida remained essentially unchanged. We kept the good ones (some just barely) we had, and kept away the bad ones we didn't (again, just barely.)

The race for Governor was nerve-wracking, and came in close at the end (48/47 percent.)

A ballot to legalize the use of MJ for medicinal purposes only, as prescribed by a physician, passed.

Things looked pretty happy here in Wisconsin. Gov Walker reelected, he's a big 2a supporter. Pretty much the only disappointment (but no surprise) was Gwen Moore going back to the H of R. She's a piece of work.....

It seems to have failed due to a state law. requiring a "super majority", 60%. The initiative got 57%. See this article.

Although polls have found almost 90 percent public support for medical marijuana in Florida, a state measure that would have legalized cannabis for medicinal purposes failed on Tuesday.

A majority of voters approved of Amendment 2, about 57 percent, but state law requires a supermajority of support -- 60 percent or higher -- so the ballot initiative failed to pass.

True. But much worse is your neighbor State, Minnesota, re-electing the very unfunny Comedian, Al Franken. :what:

And this time no last minute ballots in a car trunk were needed. 10,000 lakes. Is it something in the water there!? ;)

I see the new governor of Tx. promises to sign an open carry law if he gets one on his desk.

Fortunately, Ex-Senator Mark Pryor, the last Democrat in Arkansas' congressional delegation was defeated handsomely. He, also is a piece of "work.":p

In Illinois, where concealed carry was implemented only as a result of a federal court order, It's hard to say. Defeated Governor Quinn was vehemently anti-2A, so it's good to see him gone.

Any word on when Quinn will be moving to Stateville?

Certainly glad to see Walker re-elected. ;)
