Classicfirearms has the first version Beretta 92 S

I don't know what it is but to me there's always something cool about seeing a crate of older guns! It's like they're opening a treasure chest that has just been found. They've got some pretty nice looking Berettas there.

Very nice. Those older ones were nice. My father has an older 92S compact, which are none too common. 4.2"bbl and a shorter grip with 13rnd mag.
They were very nicely built, although I have to say, I think Beretta has kept the quality quite good over the years.

Classic Firearms price of $299.99 (Palmetto State Armory also has them and for $10 less), makes those Beretta 92 S pistols very tempting. It would definitely make for a great range /truck gun. The only drawback I can see is that these older guns require a bottom cut magazine because of the location of the mag release. They are available (a number of mags have both cuts), but you would have to make sure that it does have the right one.

Nice project or truck gun prices.

Of course, gotta account for the mags catch in magazines and grip cut-out.

Still, to play with - hard - or salt away, convert to .40...

I wonder how long it'll be before people start posting: "I shoulda.... under $300.00..." or the usual whining about profiteering/scalping, whatever.

I'd like a couple but sure would like to pick through a few for my own - just in case.

I saw on a thread on Beretta forum that these might be date coded 2004. That means that Beretta has been making 92S for the Italian police at least up until that time frame. Very interesting if true.

In my heart I want to buy one, but the 92 grip feels like a 2x4 in my hand so it's a no-go. I'm a single-stack kind of guy despite really liking the 92 in general.

I'm not too big a fan of the 92, but this is a good price on them. If I didn't already have a 92FS I'd probably jump on it.

I picked one up. It has a BU date proof mark code. Gun is basically NIB. There as been a lot of speculation on when these were made. IMHO they were made prior to 1982. The best explanation I have seen is that Italian law does not require guns sold to LEO or military to have proof marks like commerical guns. These guns were sold put into inventory and then some were used others were never issued. They were then traded in back to Beretta and in order to sell them into the commerical market they needed to be proof marked. Others have speculated that they were proof marked when they were sent in to get the FS firing pin and slide modification. Whatever the real story is many of these gun are LNIB or NIB. Others show some wear so shop smart! I have heard reports of worn guns out of Buds and PSA. I have also heard reports of unissued NIB from PSA, Southern Ohio Guns and Dans Ammo.

I put 25 rounds down range the other day and it functioned 100%. Need to get some mags from Midway. They have them for $20. This gun has the larger hammer pin and FS channel. It has a nice smooth DA pull. SA is what you would expect. DA is over 12lbs and the SA is 5.3lbs.

I am going to install a Wolf 16 lbs mainspring which should bring the DA trigger down a bit.

They were proofed in 2004, but the parts themselves were very likely made a long time ago.

No I picked it up from Dans Ammo but they are out of them.

What version locking block do these have? Also do they have the hammer pin to keep broken slide from flying off? Lastly how does the barrel look. Pitted or clean with good rifling. Thanks in advance.

I have seen a bunch of Beretta 92S Italian Police pistols popping up all over on the internet the past week or so. My guess is an importer bought a whole warehouse of them, or something along those lines.

I was really interested in getting one, but some are DAO (depending on seller's website/store)... so make sure you are getting the 92S (DA/SA) not the 92DS (DAO). Perhaps call whichever store before ordering.

PW Arms imported them and then distributed them. None of them are DAO that was a typo. They are LEO Italian trade ins that went through the Beretta factory in Italy.

Some have the improved hammer pin and FS channel slide mod some do not. They do not have the Gen 3 locking block as far as I can tell but that can be replaced for $35 if you feel the need.

Barrel condition seems to vary depending on the gun. Mine was new IMHO had never been shot before I shot it. Others report some wear but 100% shoot able.

I always liked the 92S.

The first Beretta 92 models from the mid 1970's had a frame mounted safety, black grips with no logo, and a step midway down the slide.

From what I have read some of the SOG guns are LNIB if not NIB others are clearly used. They only have excellent grade guns left at $295 but they charge 3% on a CC and your FFL has to be on file. That guy on GB is ripping people off who do not know any better.

Every report of the ones from Buds is that they have been issued and show wear but are good shooters. The ones at PSA are a mixed bag ranging from NIB to good condition, luck of the draw. Top Gun supply seems to have good to very good graded guns. If I were still in the market I would try to get one from SOG.

He sure did. Dan's Ammo had a few hand picked, like new 92s's a week or so back. They are supposed to be getting more in a few a months.

Thanks I have been buying stuff from Dan for years. I love him because he is accurate in his grading and I have never been disappointed with a surplus gun purchased from him.

He shipped mine the same day I ordered!
