Inspired by a picture that happygeek posted in another thread, I thought it would be good to have a thread with Appleseed results, and the equipment used to shoot them. So if you have them, post some AQT pictures and tell folks what you used to shoot them.

Ruger 10/22 with Tech-Sights, Volquartsen target hammer and springs, extended mag release, USGI sling.

I "cheated" and used a 1.5-7x Burris scope on a CMMG dedicated 22LR upper with a RRA lower. I've grown to really love the stock trigger on that thing. I think I was on 5x. Even after my PRK I still have trouble making out the bottom row on an AQT using irons. I used a 3 point sling adjusted to function as a standard two point for support.

This was at an Appleseed down around Castle Rock WA in the pouring rain a few years ago. I believe there were 4 other people who also made Rifleman on Sunday.

Earned this patch this weekend in Mechanicsville VA. Marlin 60 with Tech Sights and a GI cotton web sling. It does have a DIP trigger (not a functional upgrade - I broke the stock guard trying to see if 20 lb torque would be an accurate setting.. Whoops!) but no other upgrades.

I do plan on a trigger upgrade (KAT Trigger) however.

Stock rifle plus sights is awesome for an Appleseed!

Dang - I knew I shouldn't've thrown mine out. :fire:

I shot it this past Memorial Day weekend with my nephew, so it was a 3-day clinic. We had a great time.

FWIW, I used an aperture-sighted CZ452 bolt rifle, and, IIRC, scored a 228.

I have heard of folks doing well with a bolt action, but what I can't figure out is how do you stay under time on the sitting stage? By the time I was sitting and had myself straightened out, I had to rush to finish on time.

Maybe your knees just work better than mine do.

I'll post pics when I get home to my targets!

With a 20" Stag Model 4 with a 3-9x scope, shot a 221, 207, 213, and 218, in that order, two Saturdays ago in Crittenden, KY. Took my patch and orange hat.

Well, yeah, to be sure, with a bolt gun, you can't futz around once the command to fire is given. :p

Setting yourself up ahead of time so your NPA was "on" when you sit is very helpful, too.

The big thing, though was realizing the shot didn't have to be perfect - just good enough. I saw I was "on", and the shot was gone and the bolt quickly cycled without moving my head. That was enough to get mostly (but not all) 5s while taking up all the real estate the 5 offered. Good enough.

I've wanted to do an Appleseed with my grandson. He doesn't know what is is yet but i think he would have a great time...and shoot well to boot!

Let me ask about the front sights on the Ruger rifles in Captains 1911 post. From the photo they are much taller than stock.So...who makes the sights, where can I get them, and what is the measurement? I need to set his rifle up so he can shoot it some before we sign up with Appleseed.

I'm impressed with the scores y'all have scored. I think I need to practice a bit as well. :D

Those are Tech-Sights. The front sight is actually like an M1 Garand or M1 carbine...it has "ears" around the post. That's why it looks so tall :)

Correct, Tech Sights, they are light years better than the factory 10/22 sights. Another mod I feel is crucial for Appleseed is an auto bolt release. You can either buy the part for $10 or modify the factory part yourself. Sling studs and a web sling are also a must. Optional upgrades are extended mag release (if you have an older 10/22) and a trigger job (I have a Brimstone Tier 3, which also includes the auto bolt release mod in the price).
