I am purchasing a Kimber Pro carry II and want to know the proper magazines for it. The gun is in 9mm. I am also concerned with the FTF and FTE issues and would like to know which extractor to purchase if I have this problem.

Thank you.

I have the Pro Carry II, stainless. The stock magazine is full size in 7 rd. It has its' own minor issues. I also have the full size Kimber magazine in 8 rd. and a Wilson Combat 8 rd. The latter 2 have worked flawlessly.

I have not had any problems that I can recall of it extracting spent casings. The only failure to feeds, was some reloads of SWCs and, recently, some reloads of Berry's Hybrid HP 185 gr.

The SWCs, I got figured out that I didn't seat and crimp them correctly. The HPs, I haven't got to yet.

I really like mine. (And so does the wife. :uhoh:)

So, the full size, G.I. 1911 magazines will work with the Pro Carry.

I have a Pro Carry II in 45ACP. I have the 7 rnd Kimber mag, some 8 rnd Wilson 47D's, and some Wilson 8 rnd ETM mags. All have been reliable in my gun.

Oh, my bad! 9mm. Just recently purchase a Kimber Aegis Pro II. It only has about 150 rds. through it.

Factory ammo only, so far. WWB, Winchester 115 gr. Silver Tips, and Underwood 124 gr. JHP. All have feed and extracted properly.

All I have for it now is the magazine that came with it. Have some Wilsons on order. And it takes the full size magazines too.

FWIW, bought some Hornady Signature 147 gr. JHP. And found the bearing surface of the bullet is out of the casing to much, and will not allow the cartridge to chamber.

1911a1 series magazines.....

Many gun owners & armed professionals like the 47Ds from Wilson Combat for 1911/1911a1 models.
Some suggest using factory Kimber, www.KimberAmerica.com pistol magazines.
I also heard + things about Chip McCormick & Tripp Research 1911 magazines.

I have had good luck with both Tripp and Metalform
mags in my S&W 9mm Pro Series both hold 10 rounds. They are pricey but worth it.

Back when I had a 9mm 1911 I had good luck, and prefered, Metalform's and Checkmate's. Checkmate has kinda become my go-to in .45 as well.

The smart alec in me (that dislikes Kimber's) says "One attached to an STI or Dan Wesson" But the real answer is that there's no reason to think the extractor will be an issue before you even by the gun, but if it is, and you've fully troubleshot to confirm, Wilson BulletProof 1911 parts are generally good to go and would be my recomendation. Midway sells them for about $30.

I carry a Kimber Pro Carry II HD in .38 Super.

I have numerous types of magazines, but I have to say that the factory Kimber magazines have been flawless, and appear to be really excellent quality. I've carried this pistol since about 2007. I bought some Kimber magazines back then, and then some more in about 2011 or so. They are slightly different. They appear the same, but the springs in the newer Kimber mags are definitely heavier. Excellent magazines.

Rarely do I recommend factory magazines when there are so many great magazines out there, but the Kimber mags have been excellent for me.

THnak you

Thank you for your replies. It gives me much to think about. New gun arrived, I cleaned and shot three magazines of nine thru it. got approx. twenty five ftes and one ftf. Cleaned it again and adjusted tension in the ejector. next two boxes had one fte all the others went right thru. Only tried one kind of ammo. will run others thru. For now am going to try the kimber factory mags. seem to work well. however, i will put in new recoil spring and firing pin spring. THen will hold the original as the 8000 round replacement spring. Will be a long time before i get 8000 thru the gun. Again, many thanks for the responses. THR is the place to go for thoughtful replies.

Does your owners manual tell you to replace the recoil spring at 8,000 round intervals?

SPRING REPLACEMENT CHART

Compact & Pro Models:
Recoil Spring: .45 ACP & 40 S&W/22 lbs., .38 Super/18lbs. CHANGE EVERY 800 rounds.
Firing Pin Spring: HD, CHANGE EVERY 5000 rounds.
Mainspring: 23 lbs., CHANGE EVERY 5000 rounds.

Ultra Carry Models:
Recoil Spring: 18 lbs., CHANGE EVERY 1800 rounds.
Firing Pin Spring: HD, CHANGE EVERY 5000 rounds.
Mainspring: 23 lbs., CHANGE EVERY 5000 rounds.

From page 7 of the Kimbers Ownership Manual.

I would suspect then, that Bob72 may have inadvertently added an extra "0" to his number.

8,000 rounds between recoil spring replacements for a Pro length gun seemed like an awful lot of rounds to me. I see 800 rounds is the correct number and seems more reasonable. Thanks for the clarification kcofohio.

I've got to admit, that 1,800 rounds number for the Ultra model doesn't seem right if the Pro model needs to be changed a 800 round intervals.

25+ failures! Yes, you need to get that sorted out! By "fte" I assume you mean "failure to extract".

I think I'd order a new extractor while you're playing with the old one and trying to get it to work.

oh yeah

I did indeed add a zero to the spring replacement entry. it is every 800 rounds for the recoil spring. no excuse, just simple mistake with 75 yr old eyes. Thanks for those that caught it. Firing pin every 5000 mainspring also 5000.

No problem with a typo, I just wanted to make sure you weren't waiting until the 8,000 round mark to change your recoil spring. Enjoy your gun.

I run Wilson s\s mags in my Kimber with never a problem. Although I question the set round replacement rule. I take this is for a mag that remains loaded all the time? Would it be the same for a range mag that is only loaded and used at the range? Is this perhaps a full compression spring failure rate maybe?

While the thread title is about magazines, the subject has drifted to recoil springs.

The round replacement interval we are talking about is for recoil springs, not magazine springs.

I've had a Springfield Loaded (Gov't length) 9mm 1911. I now have an STI Trojan 9mm 1911. I have run both reliably with the same set of Wilson Elite Tactical Mags (ETMs). I know guys who use 9mm Trojans in IDPA ESP class and they mostly use Tripp Cobra Mags and some use Wilson ETMs. A 9mm 1911 needs good quality mags and I'm convinced the Tripp Cobra mags and the Wilson ETMs are 2 really good choices for your 9mm Pro Carry.

In contact with KImber

Contacted Kimber about the problem with extraction. Could not have asked for better more friendly service. He said that if problem continued to promptly send in gun to factory as they will repair it. I asked that he send me a new extractor and dis assembly tool. They arrived yesterday. Prompt, courteous service.:) Gun is now functioning as it should. When I cleaned it it had copious amounts of black crud/soot in the extractor channel:cuss:. I think that was the problem but I don't know why it should happen unless someone oiled the channel and it attracted soot. we will see. Thanks again for all replies.:D

Bob72, glad to hear they took care of you! The way some people talk of Kimber CS, one would think they may have a fight on hand to deal with them.

We have 2 Pros, on in 45 Auto and one in 9mm. Really like them. :)

Did you get some spare magazines yet?

Enjoy!
