Thoughts on RIA 1911's

I had one for a year and put about 500 rounds through it. I tweaked the trigger only a little and it improved it quite a bit. No malfunctions.

I bought it used so it had been shot before as well. I would buy another one.

I used one as the basis for my first 1911 customization project.
It shot well stock, and has been good customized.

Good guns and solid value.

Mine has been flawless since the 250rd break in I gave it. 2500 rounds since then and no failures. I did upgrade the sights.

I have four, wish I could add a bunch more! They're not race guns, but they're well made and affordable, and they work just fine.

I had one. It was fun and was my "toe in the water" to test my enjoyment of the 1911. It was not without its issues, and I sold it soon after I bought it to fund a Colt 1991A1 that did not have the same issues as the RIA.
My biggest gripe with the RIA was the fact that it shot significantly away from POA
RIA for $400, + sights and other minor upgrade, = the price of a used 1991A1.

I did some modifications on one for a friend of mine (beavertail grip safety and ring hammer), and was very impressed with the overall fit and finish of the gun. The nickel plating was very well done as well, being evenly applied everywhere on the gun. It was a solid reliable performer and a great buy for the money.

I shoot the compact, commander, tactical full size, and match grade full size. All accurate and reliable, and I consider them all to be under-priced.

About a year ago I was looking an the GI model and the tactical . I liked the GI but decided the sights were for 20 year old eyes and not 58 year old. I went with the tactical and have very good luck with it. Probably 400 - 500 rounds with nary a hiccup.

I personally would recommend the Tactical Models. They have better sights, the beavertail, and combat hammer & trigger. Much nicer to shoot than the GI models, and the GI's will give you hammer bite in the web of your hand. I have Tacticals in Compact .45, F/S .45, and 9mm. My 9mm Tactical is just stupid accurate, last time I had it out I couldn't believe how good it was shooting.

I have two. purchased a new in the box Match from a friend back in 2011. I ran it that year and the next in IDPA with no problems. I swapped out the grip panels for a set of VZ's and added grip tape to the front strap. Runs best with 230 grn ball. I picked up a Tactical a couple of years ago. I had it cerakoted and a little work done by a local gunsmith, and it has run great with no problems either. For about $500, a pretty good pistol all the way around.

I've had mine almost three years now, and I love it, have somewhere in the 4000 round neighborhood put through it, I'd have to go look at my notes to know for sure what the count is, but it's a bunch! Mine is a full size tactical and it is all stock, great gun that has had no malfunctions and is very accurate.

I've owned 4 of them ...reliable ,solid and a good value .
My only dislike is the finish, while durable I still think Armscor can do better with there standard finish.

Just a real good basic 1911, I plan on picking another one up but in 9mm then a 38 super barrel etc!

I keep looking at the RIA tactical models as well for my next 1911. Most of them use the series 70 firing system which appeals to me. My only pauses are I'd like 1911s to be US built and some of the older ones have giant "ROCK ISLAND ARMORY" on the left slide.

Great guns for the money. I've about 15,000 rounds through my GI which was my first centerfire pistol I added a red dot optic to.

Mine is my wife's favorite pistol for fun days at the range. It will not only function flawlessly with all factory loads I've tried (fmj and jhp) but with my swc loads that I've loaded light for my wife.

I'm at around 1000 rounds through mine with 2 malfunctions both caused by my out-of-spec reloads. I got the Tactical Full Size and love it. I did replace the full length guide rod with a GI but that was more of an aesthetic choice than anything.

My one friend complained that the trigger was heavier than he was used to in a 1911 but he used to shoot competition in the Army. I like it for carry - a bit heavy but crisp and consistent.

Far and away the best bang/buck ratio on the 1911 market.

I have a compact 45 and would love the full sized 10mm, there's one with a rail for sale locally. I'd really rather have the traditional non-railed version though.

I have a RIA mid size (4") that I carry a lot. It's a great shooter. Not as nice as my Dan Wesson gov. size, but it sure didn't cost what a DW does either! You won't go wrong with a RIA.

Only RIA I have is a 10mm with the rail, which gives it a 'monolith' appearance. However, the extra metal and heft of the rail make it very recoil soft, like shooting a 9mm pistol. Its built like a tank, overbuilt, probably the best 1911 variant out there for the 10mm cartridge, don't think it will wear out.

And yah, it shoots straight and functions flawlessly, perfect autoloader for street or trail.

Have had a Full size Tactical .45 for a number of years now. I have over 2000 rounds through it, mix of ball and HP, never once failed to go bang or into battery. Looking to add a 9mm 2011 to the family for 3 gun competitions.
