I have been a bit inactive for almost two years now. I was wondering if we had a section on single shot rifles? Seem like we did a while back but perhaps I am wrong.....

Any comments

I would love to have a single shot rifle in .416 Ruger, 20" barrel, stainless steel, synthetic stock, good sights, and a well made sling.

I'm sure there are alot of Guys n Gals who love single shots....maybe enough for a seperate section?? Although I have several other types of actions, I find I prefer my single shot rifle, both for hunting, and for a relaxing day at the range. I can't explain it, there is just something about it......

Preach it 115grfmj,,,

Preach it my friend,,,
I am in total agreement with you.

I own four single-shot rifles,,,
And single shot adaptors for two others.

I own a few semi's and enjoy shooting them,,,
It's fun to set up a steel challenge stage and go for speed.

But when I go to the range and just want to relax,,,
It's either my Henry Acu-Bolt,,,
Or my H&R Sportster,,,
Or my CZ-452.

When I take newbies or kids to the range,,,
I always have them shooting a single-shot rifle,,,
I shoot one as well so they don't feel like I'm holding them back.

Burning through a few mags at high-speed is fun,,,
But I've found that consistently hitting my target is more funner. :D

as noted, no such forum existed

From timt to time, some guys ask for additional sections. While a bunch of separate ones sounds like a good idea, it gets very cumbersome and confusing.

My first firearm was a single shot 22, Ithaca 49. I still have it. It still shoots great.

Wow, Ithaca 49 eh? Isn't that the lever action, "falling block", blonde wood single shot .22?
Mine is the Ted Williams version that Grandpa gave me as my first firearm in the early 70s. Many a squirrel and racoon fell when the hammer on that rifle fell.

Just great! now I need to go see if I "need" another single shot something...

There is a thread going on the possible / probable end of the Handi Rifle. It's an American classic single shot rifle and it appears to be going away. Too bad really. I like single shot rifles too. Many of them are stiffer and therefore more accurate than multiple round guns.

Would you say a single shot rifle is inherently more accurate than a bolt action rifle, I am thinking break open single shot, since there are also bolt and lever and others which were made as single shot rifles?

I've got a Handirifle in 204 ruger. Has a heavy barrel and wood stock. Burris 6-18x scope. It hasn't been fired yet. My dad never used it so he just gave it to me!

It seems like it's gonna be a fun little range/ varmint rifle. Trigger feels pretty nice.

Single-shots are among my favorites, but even I can't justify breaking into autoload rifle, bolt-action rifle, etc. "Rifle" is the operative word: auto, semi-auto, bolt-action, pump-action, straight-pull, single-shot, etc. No doubt I have missed one or two.

Great idea, but the need for a "single-shot" section, regardless of how much I admire them, not there.

Great idea though,

Geno :D

I have single shot rifles and have done most of my hunting with single shot rifles and handguns but I doubt a section devoted to single shot firearms would be used that much. I know of three other forums that have said sections and they're not used much.

Would be nice to have a way to differentiate between older style, classic firearms (you know, the interesting ones) and these new fangled, "fancy" guns... You know, so I don't have to listen to "My AR is doing this and now I wanna cry" :D

For the record, I'm torn right now for what I like to shoot most, my Sharps, or my "hawken-ish" TC. Probably the Sharps, dang-it! Now I wanna go load up some 45-70!!!

I have two single shots,
A Pedersoli 1874 Sharps Infantry rifle in .45/70 and a Remington 581 .22 converted into a target rifle.

Just recently got through building this single shot. Oldest daughter of mine has shot some groups at 300 yards with it that measured 1/2".

As much as I love my single shot rifles I simply don't see enough single shot traffic in this generic forum to justify splitting it off to a new subforum. Besides, there's already some very good specialty forums that focus on single shot rifles. Namely the single shot sub forum at Cast Boolits and the ASSRA forum.

And single shots ROCK! I really enjoy shooting my old rolling block. And I recently added a Uberti 1885 Winchester Hi Wall to the safe. I just need to modify the screws to hold the Pedersoli peep sight to the tang and then go enjoy it.

And DARN you doubleA, now I'm thinking of making a bolt action single shot. As much as I like lobbing slow hunks of cast lead downrange at darn near a jogging pace I'm thinking something like that in a fast jacketed style ammo could be a lot of fun too.

I have a number of single shot rifles in calibers from 44-40 to .22LR and find them really fun to shoot. My AAC 300 Blackout Handi Rifle is "The Rifle of the year" for Mikey and took a pile of hogs including one huge one. Each with a single shot from a 16" barrel. A dedicated forum would probably not gain a large following as today since it does not have a mag capacity that stretches to Portzebie Maine "it ain't popular".

I too have fallen under the spell of the single shot.:DI inherited an old stevens favorite that was missing parts,:(and that got me curious. Well wouldnt you know in a local gun shop there was a savage/stevens favorite in the rack well I got it as a surprise birthday present for myself:evil: and that has me started on my love affair with the single shot. Now Im looking at a center fire rifle not totally certin witch one yet but im thinking about it ! :scrutiny:Those Ruger #1's are certianly NICE iron might take a wile to save up for one of those though The problem with a single shot is that they arent taticool enough. Now if they made something ugly out of plastic with rails on it so that someone could mount flashlights and lazers all over it you would realy have something !:barf:

Then.......Maybe we need a separate AR only section.

So all the AR whining does clog up the rifle forum like to much TP in the bowl:neener:
