Looking to buy a new handgun to throw in the truck. Wanting to keep it kinda cheap (Preferably under $400). Was looking at 9mm but am open to other calibers. I was thinking something along the lines of the new canik tp9sa or a sig sp2022. What are some others y'all would recommend? Thanks for the help. And roll tide!!

My top 2 are:
-Smith and Wesson SD9VE (or 40) - you can get them for $299 if you look around
-Armscor (Rock Island) M200. A no-frills .38 revolver, $175-$220.

Both have been 100% reliable, the S&W is all stainless and plastic to keep it corrosion-free with minimal maintenance.

You can get a SCCY CPX-2 for $221.00

Rough trigger on a cheap gun but people generally have good things to say about their reliability.

I'd hate to see a nice Canik as a truck beater. Like I said before the Ruger SR's are king of the budget guns where you want accuracy & reliability on the cheap.

Right now you can also pick up last years version of the CZ p-07 under 400 bucks and it's hands down the best money you can spend to get a uber reliable, rugged, good looking SA/DA pistol. Though it's called a compact the accuracy says otherwise.

Guns....

In that range, Id consider; a SIG 320, it's modular and can quickly convert to different sizes or calibers; the Smith & Wesson SD40VE or SD9VE. These simple, robust polymer frame pistols have great features and a lifetime warranty. I like the DA only trigger system too. The fit & finish isn't top level but I've seen new SDs for as low as $275.00. ;)
The Walther PPX stainless steel in .40S&W. It's not "best in show" but it's a DAO with large bright sights. It has a decent magazine cap too for personal defense. Some gunners like the new Walther CCP but I'm not aware of all it's features yet.

The Ruger SR45 .45acp might be a good pick. The big slow .45acp is a top defense round. The SR45 has a safety & a magazine safety too. You can add white lights(flash lights) or laser aimers to it. SR45s can be had for $400.00 to $425.00 with Davidson's Lifetime Warranty plans.
I'm not fond of the Canik pistols. I've read and saw a lot of - things about them.
A 320, a Ruger SR or a Smith & Wesson SD40VE would be my choices.

I'd recommend (here comes the hate mail) a Taurus PT111 G2.
BRAND: Taurus # OF MAGS: 2
MODEL: PT111 Millennium G2 SAFETY: Manual Safety, Taurus Security System
TYPE: Pistol: Semi-Auto SIGHTS: Front: Dot Rear: Adjustable 2-Dot
CALIBER: 9MM BARREL LENGTH: 3.2"
FINISH: Blue OVERALL LENGTH: 6.2"
ACTION: Double Action WEIGHT: 22 oz
STOCK: Polymer Frame
CAPACITY: 12+1 FEATURES: Loaded Chamber Indicator
FEATURES: Picatinny Rail

I've got one and it's been trouble free and totally reliable. If you buy through Davidson's it comes with their Davidson’s GuaranteeD® Lifetime Replacement Warranty . Looks like it can be had in the $285-$295 out the door range in your neck of the woods

Rusty makes a great point...in your other thread I mentioned my SR45. Dead solid reliable and accurate, and my daily driver gun.

Makarov for a beater truck gun maybe???? :)
Don't know what they are going for now, mine was inexpensive.

Of course 9 Mak is not 9*19 power level but lots of people consider .380 enough and 9 Mak is between there and 9 Luger.

Mine is reliable.
Not only that they look cool and are fun.

PS
and mine is quite accurate.

Police trade in Glock.
I don't even like them.
But, if you lose it, you haven't lost much. They're easily replaced and reliable.

My SR9 has been perfect, but I'd hate to lose it. Not as much as losing my Smith 4566, but I'd still hate to lose it.

SR45 is on my short list. I really like it.

There are several venders selling FN FNS 9s and 40s for just under 400 I got a 40 with nightsights for $425 and they come with 3 mags

CZ 83...rugged, reliable, accurate, it has a big enough frame to be easy to shoot.

Buffalo Bore makes +p in this caliber that runs at 1000 and 1100 fps. (95 gr and 115 grain).

I just bought a nasty looking Ruger P944 for $125.00.
Dirty, crappy exterior finish, but the internals looked
almost unfired.
Works well and you never know when you might need a
hammer instead of a gun. It makes my old beater Glock 17
look good.

I use a trade in Smith & Wesson model 64. It is a stainless model 10 and is DAO. It is built like a tank and I use Buffalo Bore .38 +p Semi wad cutters. That stuff is pretty nasty and generally blows the crap out of anything I shoot it at. That gun lives in my console. The last time it left my console was when I had to track a deer into woods that was shared by hogs. I suppose I should probably go shoot it more often.
