Im going to buy an AR-10 soon, I've read so many reviews that now I don't now what brand/model I should buy, I would like it to except pmags and I want a good trigger, barrel length and quadrails do not matter to me but it needs to be able to except a scope other than that just all around quality for my money . Any AR-10 owners out their I appreciate your input. Thanks

It's getting to be almost every company has one. Just saw a receiver set from spikes for 400. Pick which one you like the looks and specs of. Cheaper than dirt has a good selection of 308 ar's. Just to have a comparison of what's out there. Then there's psa, aero precision, Fulton armory. I think psa's the best deal going. Under 1000 dollars with stainless barrel and a 200 dollar rail. At that price you could swap the barrel and bolt for a jp enterprise match barrel and bolt, sell the factory and still be under 1500.

How much are you willing to budget for the project?

The LMT MWS is an awe-inspiring rifle. It and the Larue .308s are perhaps the nicest options this side of an SR25, but they cost a good bit more than a run of the mill AR10.

This might be a stretch for some, but Remington R-25 I've hunted with for five seasons has been a truly great gun. Easy 1MOA with factory hunting ammo, close to ½MOA with reloads and Norma Jaktmatch, not a single malfunction after 1000 or so rounds and knowing R-25 is nothing more than a re-branded DPMS, I might just have been lucky. I seriously considered Armalite AR-10A series rifle, but came across the R-25 for about half what Armalite retailed, so I just bought it and thought I always could trade up if need be. I have yet to find a need, if the questionable camo finish doesn't count. My longest whitetail kill shot with this rifle has been 365 yards and not only did the rifle deliver, I also felt absolutely confident when I pulled the trigger. The only additions so far have been a simple trigger job and threading the barrel for a suppressor. It hasn't really needed anything else.

YMMV, so not being intimately familiar with DPMS-Remington quality control I can't say if this kind of accuracy and reliability are typical, but positive reviews I've come across have outnumbered negative ones and my $.02 worth of personal experience with it has been great.

Today's AR-10 market is much like the AR-15 market with literally dozens of manufacturers making the things. On the bright side there are fewer manufacturers making the AR-10 guns but still a wide field to choose from. I have shot a few of the S&W flavors and did like them and found them to be well made accurate rifles, despite some discussions about the gas ports and what ammunition they would or would not cycle reliably with. The Remington guns also get good reviews.

When I put mine together it was almost 20 years ago and the selection was limited which if nothing else made decisions easier. I wanted a match grade rifle and that was what I ended up with. Armalite was the best choice at the time so I went with an AR10[T] flavor and added a new match barrel. I have been happy with mine.

If I had to do it again today I would do as you are doing and apply some homework and research. Just about all of them out there seem to shoot well, some better than others depending on what you want and your piggy bank.

Make sure you research the platform as unlike the AR15 guns the AR10 guns are not created equally starting with which guns accept which magazines. Parts do not interchange like an AR15 rifle. Just keep that in mind.

I'll be picking up a Ruger SR-762 later this week. At $1450 it seems like a decent deal. Only thing I've heard negative so far is like the handguard or don't buy one as it's not easily removable (it's pinned on). On paper I like the gas piston system which should allow me to dial in a suppressor without over gassing the rifle.

LGS has a nice CMMG but they want $1895 for it, it's DI but it does have a 2-stage Geissele trigger which I really like.

Realize there are two different patterns. The Armalite pattern with the diagonal rear joint cut, and the KAC/DPMS pattern with a rounded joint. The PMAG was made for the KAC pattern, and eventually Armalite changed their rifles to accept them too. I honestly think the Armalite pattern will go away, they will start to make their rifles with the KAC pattern, because it has become more standardized with the military adoption of the M-110 family of rifles. (I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened already.)

I think that for the long-term availability of parts and accessories, I would go with the KAC/DPMS pattern.

I like the ruger but I dont like the 16" barrel. Is a 6065 upper receiver that much of a detriment?

I just shot this group last weekend with some 180 grain sierras and RL-15 out of my DPMS G-II Recon. It was 100 yards in a rest. I don't shoot that good. It's a flat top with flip up mag pull sights. This is the best I have got out of it. It has functioned perfectly. No failures to feed, fire, or eject. I have been very happy with it. The trigger is about as good as you will get in a factory gun. I think if I had it to do again, I would probably get the SASS.

Money isn't really a problem, not saying im a millionare, but I've been stuffing my piggy bank to the point its full... I went offshore drilling job for a few years and I saved every penny possible came home paid off Everything I owed and bought my wife a new truck with cash...ain't that smart.haha
Lots of good advice here.. Man I think that HK is looking good. But don't they all.. Basically I don't want to buy a gun that im gonna have to rebuild to my standards after I buy it. I got that HK on my mind, what about sig don't they make a varaint in 7.62 ..

I have been shooting a Armalite 308cal AR-10 T (( Target Model )) for several years now and to tell you the truth I like it more everytime I use it. It is just a great rifle and the trigger is just out of sight. Mine will shoot around a inch or less with anything I have tried in it. But with the reloads that it likes 1/2 inch is the norm. My Son Has a 2 DPMS 308cal AR- 10`s one a carbine model and the other a heavy barreled Target Model. Both of His AR-10`s shoot extremley well, about the same as my Armalite. And both have very good triggers as well. I shoot Targets and Coyotes with mine. If I am set up in the hay loft of a farmer`s barn or out building with a good rest to shoot off of, a Coyote at 300 + yds is deffently in trouble if I do my part. A rifle of this type deserves a good Scope my Son and I both have been useing 4200 8-32 X 40 Elite`s for several years on our AR 10 - Target Models. And are very impressed with them.

Let's look at that spare mag in the picture and try to figure out why anyone thinks HK is a contender for "best" in firearms categories

For the uninitiated, the backwards round is an insider joke, paying homage to a marketing errors that occurred years ago. Apparently HK was in a rush to get a brochure made, and it made it through the proofing process. HK fans have been loading rounds backwards in their mags for photo shoots ever since.
