best excuse for today's poor shooting

Why, the one I used just today...

"It musta been that dang X-Mark Pro trigger." :cuss: (gotta order that Timney pronto)

My excuse? Totally legit, too. I just had an eye exam. Doctor said "Read the smallest line on the chart you can". I did and he said "Not bad". Then he covered my right eye and I asked him to put the chart back.

I went from no glasses to picking up my bifocals right before Christmas.

I before E, except after C, as in "deceivingly cold." I made a clerical error back in 1982, so no big deal.

Thanks for the correction "short barrel". I guess you have your own problem there.:D

Well, yesterday I forgot my camo face paint. Can't shoot without that.

These are pretty good, but today I did have a good excuse. Today, on BLM land, with heavy jacket and ear protectors and having a pretty good day in spite of the 65 MPH wind. However at one point a Pave Hawk helo came right over the backstop at about 200 feet, NOE practice flying I suppose, but with the ear muffs on I never heard him coming. Sure messed up one shot for certain.

medalguy,

I used an HH-60 Nighthawk flying overhead as an excuse for playing a bad round of golf in Flagstaff last July :).

People just don't shoot enough. Sometimes this can't be helped (Family, Job, Learning how to play Golf :) ) but most of the time shooting is like working out. If you want to get better, you will find time to shoot.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Well,

Sometimes when it comes down to it all I am left with (after wearing out the old advanced age saw) is that as a marksman I sometimes kinda suck.

P.S. It took me a good 5 min. to type this due to the playful kitten on my shoulder wanting to get into the act. That inspires me to come up with one that involves her! I should have left some of her typing in.

  • The electrical field from my electronic hearing protection interfered with my brainwaves.
  • I accidentally brought my Southern hemisphere scope which is set up for the opposite Coriolis effect and didn't realize my error it until it was too late.
  • I am recovering from an industrial accident involving non-dairy creamer and a microwave oven.
  • I inadvertently did all my corrections in MILS instead of MOA.
  • I actually shot really well but the guy next to me took my target and left me with this lousy mess.

I went shooting with my son today. When things looked bad I just admitted to "shooter malfunction"...and let it go. He seemed O.K. with it.

Mark

ps: AMFLYER (post #34)...that was good.

The deer timed my trigger pull just right and leaped to the right on the first shot and then back to the left on the 2nd shot and then straight up with a half gainer on the third and a smirking snicker as he saundered into the trees while I frantically tried to reload, stringing curses together that've made my Uncle once removed darn proud. I mean can anyone hit such a clever antlered dipstick ?? Huh ??

Usually don't need one. Today my glasses fogged up. Scope out of parallax adjustment, too much coffe.

Didn't want to make every one else look bad?

For us ladies:
Hair in my eyes
Makeup in my eyes
My eyelashes uncurled

But mostly - Too many eyes watching me shoot instead of paying attention to what they're doing!

I think there is some dirt betwen the loops in the trigger spring.
My benchrest is not weighted properly.
There are fingerprints on the cartridges, which causes it to stick to the breech oddly.
Anal probing.

Someone really need to come up with an auto-aim device for my shotguns.
Sad thing is they make those for rifles now.

Yesterday's excuses - guy beside me kept pointing his muzzle at me
- ammo was from different lots
- new hearing protection muffs SUCK
- used different ear plugs under muffs for the first time, felt
like sticks in my ears

A valid excuse, honest.....

A local indoor range I sometimes shoot at(military Monday, free for veterans/active duty) as a huge industrial type ventilation fan, for the lanes(6/7).
I have no issues with removing fumes or toxins but the fan is like a jet engine & blows all the paper targets up & down. It's annoying to shoot at a paper full size Q type target or digital image target you can't aim at because the GD fan is 80mph  .
The next time I go, I might just move to the end lane/point then buffer the range to keep the breeze down.
I like to fire a few rounds weak hand or shoot at humanoid shape targets at CQB range. I can't because the "fan" is sooo strong.
BTW; the industrial type fan only has 1 setting and the "staff" can't move it.
