Has anyone had thoughts about adding a long gun to their vehicle, as a supplement to you concealed carry hand gun? It seems like is becoming apparent that we will sooner than later be having an islamic/terrorist incident.

I have a mossberg 88 with a shockwave technologies birds head style pistol grip that sits in the trunk , whether or not i ever use it is of a different matter, perhaps something like those draco ak pistols would fit the bill.

Gimme a freakin' break.

Not the possibility of the subect... just the tread.

Todd.

"Has anyone had thoughts about adding a long gun to their vehicle, "

Why do you think we like pick-ups???

Always carry a long gun on road trips. Shotgun for me.

I always carry a rifle with me. Trip duration and purpose determine which one. Usually, it's my old Winchester 94 30-30. Why would anyone leave their rifle at home?

No. I am not that paranoid. You would be far better off carrying a portable defibrillator.

It had nothing to do with terrorists, but vehicle carry on trips is one of the reasons I got an AK pistol and brace.

There would be a very narrow (almost inconceivable) spectrum of circumstances that would make it advantageous to have a long gun in your vehicle and be at the location of, and in a position to do something about, a terrorist attack. There is also the concern that you, armed with a long gun, are easily mistaken for one of the perpetrators.

Having said that, there ain't a vehicle out there that cares about an extra 10 or 12 pounds of payload, so to my thinking, the only reason to not have a long arm with you is either laws that prohibit it in your state/city, or concern of theft. Me? Yeah, I keep something more than my CCW in my vehicles. But out here, it has a lot more to do with the probability of needing to dispatch a deer wounded by a vehicle than terrorists or other criminals. My county, like most very rural counties, would be a really poor choice to target. The population is quite low in density and extremely high in armament.

On that point, a long gun shouldn't be the only thing in your trunk. Jumper cables, a respectable first aid kit, flares (or the electronic equivalent), some water, a little food, a wool blanket, a heat source (sterno, for example), a multi-plier and a small assortment of hand tools are absolute must-haves in my book. The "trunk gun" is just another part of that tool kit for me.

No point to tossing a long gun in most people's vehicles. The whole "terrorist" excuse is very very misguided in the face of the danger of becoming collateral damage with police response.

First off, the odds of a terrorist attack on you personally are almost non existent. But more importantly since when do Islamic terrorist car jack? Take the France incidents. What good would a long gun in a car have done anyone in the Newspaper office? What good would a long gun in a car have done the hostages in the store today.

Suicide bombs in a cafe? Go back to 9/11. What good would a long gun in their car have done for anyone in the twin towers?

If you think you need to keep a long gun in your car because of a potential Islamic terrorist act, you have no understanding of how a terrorist act works

I always have a long gun in the car, but not for reasons you listed. I am often times finding myself going with friends to go shooting without any form of notice and so I keep a small stash of ammo and a long gun (mossberg 500 with a cut to 20" barrel) in my car. Usually keep around 25 rounds of buckshot and 10 or so cheapy slugs and then 50 or more rounds of the cheapest birdshot. A simple hike can become a hog hunt in a moments notice, or a squirrel hunt. So the shotgun it is.

I'm fine with a long gun in the car.. But add a good first aid kit with quickclot bandages, fire extinguisher, and blankets.

You are far more likely to see an emergency at a distance than be in one.

So have equipment to help others in the car as well as weapons.

No....

Id say no.
You do not need a SBS or M4. You can have a few extra magazines or speed loaders. It never hurts to have extra rounds available but a full size rifle or shotgun is a tad much.

I much prefer a fire extinguisher, jumper cables and basic tools to anything more than my own personal 9mm CCW.

Someone sees a guy whip an AR out of his vehicle and start firing at 'perps', you'll be in a whole lot more risk of getting shot by LEO.

My daily driver is an old Wrangler that for 8 months of the year has a soft top on it...at most...

Putting a rifle in it when there would (Literally) be nowhere to hide it? No thanks.

On top of that...as has been pointed out, the odds of me needing it are already VERY slim, and the odds of me being able to GET to it if I need it are about nonexistent.

Lots of great advice on practical items to carry.
My Cheif RSO carries a full medic bag in his truck, along with a fire extinguisher and jumper box/cables. I'm building my emergency kit piece by piece as we speak.

A few members on here out in the country have posted some great photos of truck guns for patrolling out on their property. Mending fences, checking livestock, etc...
One that stands out was a member who had an AR places above his drivers seat. I believe it was held up with rubber clips. Hopefully they'll see this thread and repost the photo.

The most common truck rifle I've seen is the AR. For a carbine it would have to be an AR in 9mm or a HiPoint Carbine. Both are great rifles.

I'd probably carry one if I had a trunk...all 3 of the vehicles I drive are lacking that so theft is a concern.

Use to carry one of those AR-7 .22s in the trunk of my car but that was about it in terms of carrying a long gun. On long trips I typically take along a 9mm. pistol as my car/truck gun.

I've had a trunk gun for years in the form of a Model 94 Winchester Trapper in .45 Colt caliber. Yeah. Technically, it's a Model 92. There's a butt cuff for spare ammo, but that's about it.

Not because terrorism and not because paranoia...but just because.

Trunk...not truck. There was a time that a rifle or shotgun in a PU truck's rifle rack didn't raise an eyebrow, but those days are gone.

The only time you might have a problem was in deer season, when it was a no-no to have a loaded rifle in the passenger compartment of a vehicle...but only if you were on the backroads where the killing fields were. I've gone through license checks in season, and the cops only gave the rifle a cursory glance.

Labeling someone as paranoid because they keep a long gun in their vehicle is singing the same tune that the anti sings about our handguns that we carry for self-defense.

Let's avoid that slippery slope. It's a choice that freemen get to make in America...at least for the present. I reserve the right to make that choice and I support your right to make that choice. If you come across as paranoid, that will be determined by your words and actions and not your choice to include a long gun in your travels.
