Now that these have been out and people have actually had a chance to fondle/hold/shoot these, just wondering what you're thinking..I'm looking to pick up a new springfield 9mm...I've shot the mod 2 and it's a good gun...Aside from the new grip, sights and slide it still feels and performs like the original XDSC to me...It still feels a bit thick and bulky to me...I was surprised a how big the gun actually seemed the first time I picked it up...I also think that talon or PRP grips feel better than the new grip zone...(IMO)...I currently CC an XDS 45 and own an XD 45c as well...The Mod 2 seems just as thick to me as my XD 45c...I'n going back to shoot another one today and see how I feel again about it...Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on this gun so far positive or negative...

Rob Picius....

Gun writer & tactics trainer; Rob Pincius(check spelling) gave the new XD mod 02 a glowing T&E on Youtube.com . I think he's a S-A sponsored instructor so take that into account. ;)
I've seen a few NIB S-A XD mod 02 sub compacts for around $400.00-$450.00. :)
If my new M&P Shield no thumb safety 9mm doesn't pass muster, I might buy a .40S&W XD mod 2.
As Pincius points out the pistol has 3 distinct grip areas in the grip zone. It can quickly adapt to larger/full size XD pistol mags too. I'm not a fan of fiber optic carry sights(I think they are too weak for rough use or harsh conditions). Note; Pincius states in the video the new pistol uses the larger XD series not the XDm line. The XDm models will not fit this new firearm.
I'm willing to give the new XD mod 02 .40 a chance.
S-A includes a slew of extras too. Holster, magazine holder, lock, mag loader, etc.
The fact that it's a new format makes me want to wait & see if it gets any safety problems or factory recalls. New holsters and gear from major firms; Galco, Safariland, Bianchi, Blade-tech, Blackhawk, etc might come out later too.

If it didn't say "Grip Zone" on the side of it, I'd look at it more like it's a real gun. How lame can you get?! It's not a tennis shoe or something. Geeeeez.

It feels too blocky to me. It feels too much bigger than my early XDs. I think I will stick with the original. I bought it because it is very small AND it's a .45ACP. I don't want it any bigger.

I keep looking at it but 26oz seems awfully heavy for a poly gun that size.

Completely agree with Tarosean, they should have either made it longer or put less rounds in it and made it thinner, and lighter.

I've looked at them as I am in the market for a compact 9 or 40. I think I'm just going to try to get my hands on an FNS-40 Compact and see how I like that. I do like most of the other features on the XD models though.
