Public Perception of Suppressors

I wrote to that person detailing the errors in the article. To my surprise he responded and we also talked on the phone. In the end he was completely uninterested in correcting the errors in the article; ironic that he would accuse the NRA of lying but be so willing to do so himself.

He obviously thinks the Salon readers are stupid enough (some probably are) to believe what he writes.

Was he at least cordial during your conversation? Hopefully he wasn't acting like a jerk but coming from Salon I'm not surprised in the stance or errors.

He was polite in his e-mail and on the phone. But this is no reason to make claims that one has no reason to believe are true.

I actually saw suppressors portrayed accurately in a Hollywood film the other day! I was watching Lone Survivor and the sound effects were very accurate for a suppressed .223 - no "Hollywood quiet." I was impressed.

He's entitled to his opinion, no matter how incorrect, biased and twisted it might be. Unfortunately there are ignorant and misinformed individuals who take his far-fetched drivel at face value. Personally I found his article highly amusing and downright paranoid, but my assessment is based on "only" three decades of weekly/daily first hand experience with dozens, even hundreds of suppressors in all kinds of recreational shooting activities.

See, this is a misunderstanding of what this sort of political writing is done for. The *point* is to give the reader some justification of the stuff they already feel and have no idea why.

Then, of course, when you argue with these readers in real life, they think you're a scary obsessive, since they assume you've been fed *another* line of BS to justify post facto YOUR feeling.

It's very interesting to recognize how all kinds of misinformation is fed to people, how their thought patterns are changed and, last but not least, what it takes to erase beliefs like that in a face to face conversation that seems perfectly normal if one doesn't have intimate knowledge of how personal belief systems are formed.

It's strange how rarely I get into verbal arguments with anyone anymore. I have a habit of not giving out my C.Ht. business card, until perhaps afterwards when people already wholeheartedly agree with me on the subject we just discussed. :D

In MN - land of 10,000 liberals - A suppressor instantly turns any firearm (and it's owner) into a hardened unreformable criminal 1,000 yard instant death perfectly silent guaranteed headshot killer of doom.

At least that what it pretty much says in the law describing why we can't have one.

so yeah. hollywod fear at it's finest.
