Yes, that's a good article. I took a 2-day suppressor class with Dr. Philip Dater last year ... well worth it.

^^ This. What's Doctor Phil teaching and to whom? Assume a professional-level engineering seminar?

He was last February/March. I hope he's still with us.

Not really. It's a two day course where he goes through the history of suppressor design and testing, suppressor design, suppressor testing, required equipment, seized homemade suppressors, some NFA stuff, lots of videos and photos, lots of data, anecdotes, range time using test equipment, and the opportunity to use a wide range of suppressed firearms. It was a good two days and I would consider it a good introductory course for anyone thinking of getting into the suppressor business whether designing and manufacturing or simply selling.

That sounds like FUN! What did it cost, & where was it held? Any way to find out if he's doing another?

The class was held near Las Vegas. I just spoke with Dr. Dater in the GEMTECH booth at the SHOT show on Tuesday and he's most likely not going to conduct any more classes under the previous arrangement. However, he did say that he'd consider travelling to a company or venue to conduct a class if there were enough participants. The cost was around $500 for two days which included snacks, lunch, a cd packed with data, range time, and a t shirt.
