The subject line pretty much says it all. I have a Beretta 92 FS. I can't afford a Browning Hi Power. Looks like the pick of the litter is a CZ 75B. Any ideas out there guys? BTW plastic striker fire is not in the mix. I know they're good guns. They are just not for me

If a HiPower is too much, I'm assuming a SIG is out of budget as well.

But I see no issues with the CZ 75, it is an excellent pistol. I would seriously consider one of the CZ clones:
-Magnum Research Baby Eagle/Jericho
-EAA Witness
-Tristar/Canik clones

I'm sure people will chime in with a used gun such as the Ruger P-series, Smith and Wesson 3rd Gens, used SIGs, HiPower clones, etc

I have heard indirectly at my local gun club that the black finish on the CZ 75's is pretty weak.

The black polymer finish on CZ's made in the last approximately 20 years is one of the better, more durable finishes on a pistol. Prior to that they used a black paint, or epoxy that wasn't as durable. That is where your info may be coming from. Buy a CZ. You will NOT be disappointed.

A Hi Power isn't DA/SA. It's a straight SA.

What's your budget?

SIG, or a third gen Smith would be my go to in those requirements. You can get a 5906 in the mid $300's pretty easy right now.

For a Hi Power, I'd be willing to accommodate. lol. Looking to spend $500-$700 for a carry/range gun. I sent my 92fs back to Beretta and had it tricked out. Great target/PD pistol. Just a little big to carry. Looking for something to use for both. I was surprised about the finish problem, because the ones I looked at were very good. What I like about the CZ's and Browning are the thin profiles.

I agree that the CZ, Sig, or S&W 3rd Gens are your best quality choices, but it depends on your budget. If you want a compact double stack for example, you can get a S&W 6906 for $450 or less. A single stack 3913 will be slightly more. A CZ 75 in all its variants will be $500 +\- 50 depending how hard you shop. If you have to have new and have a tighter budget, Canik or Bersa may have models that will appeal to you.

Having owned both a hi power and still owning a CZ I would take the CZ even if they were both the same price.

Now that being said the hi power has a couple advantages if I remember right it had a slimmer profile and its SAO.

The CZ for my won out as my carry gun because I shot it a little better and the trigger was nicer on my upgraded gun.

Even tho the hi power trigger linkage looks like something out of a bad nightmare it didn't shoot or fell as bad as I was expecting.

Both are good guns and easy enough to carry but I give a slight win to the CZ.

I have to give the nod towards the CZ 75, but the full size is still a lot of gun to carry. I carried a Hi Power, the slim slide is very nice. I always prefer shooting the CZ over the HP and my M9. The CZ 75 compacts are just as good as their full size siblings, and the basic 75B compact still has a steel frame. I finally tried a TriStar C100 clone recently and was very impressed with it. In fact I thought the build quality might even be a tad higher than my CZ. The tolerances were noticeably tighter and was just as reliable.

Too bad they aren't easily found anymore, but my P228 (not the M11) was my favorite carry for a long time.

I own a CZ-7B and recommend it highly,,, But,,,,,

I own a CZ-75B and can recommend it highly,,
But it's not the only good option out there.

Brand new CZ's aren't all that pricey,,,
$500.00 to $550.00 gets you a brand new one.

But like cluttonfred said,,,
Take a look at some of the Bersa models,,,
I own three of their guns and they all perform very well.

My Thunder Pro 9UC (Ultra Compact) is a very fine pistol,,,
All metal DA/SA with a decocker,,,
10 or 13 round magazines,,,
Ambidextrous controls.

This compact version is very similar in size, shape, and feel to the CZ RAMI.

The full size version of the gun is very similar to the standard CZ-75B,,,
The 9mm has 17 round magazines.

They come chambered for 9mm, 40 S&W, or 45 ACP,,,
After shooting my 9mm UC at the range,,,
My friend bought the 45 ACP version,,,
That is one fine shooting gun,,,
Very manageable recoil,,,
Fantastic ergonomics.

I also own a Thunder 22 as well as a Thunder 380,,,
I shoot these guns at my range quite often,,,
I'm not a fanboy because I own them,,,
I'm a fanboy because they perform.

Anyways, I just thought I would point these out.

Happy gun hunting,,,

It was a done deal the second I picked it up. Got it at Bud's Gun Shop right here in East Tennessee. Paid $689.00.

I've been looking for a blued version of the 75, last show I found a blued 40 but wanting a 9 I ended up with a P-09. Hopefully I'll find the 75 for me sometime soon. Congrats on your new CZ! You won't be disappointed...

You can try and find a Sig Certified Pre-Owned, I think they run $550-ish and the 226 is supposed to be a very good pistol with a very solid fanbase. Also CDNN has used Sigs for 400-550 depending on caliber and some other factors. CZ-75 is a good pistol, too.

I did a quick run thru at the gun show today. I was in a hurry to get back to Bud's before it closed. Lot's of plastic guns. The only stainless CZ 75 I saw was a compact going for $750.00. Will go back tomorrow for reloading supplies.

You can get a S&W 5900 series pistol at www.budsgunshop.com for around $350. They are all metal with an aluminum receiver. Parts are available, accessories are sketchy. You will be stuck with generic holsters that almost work. But that will be the case with any all metal semi auto.
