Anyone have a complete picture of the new Springfield gun?

i like the standard xd's and the grip safety, shooting wise and looks wise....not so big on the other various versions of xdm's and xds, and such as far as looks are concerned.

this one i'm missing the obvious...what is so special and different about it?

Looks like better sights, different texture, slide serrations, and slimmer slide and frame.

Would you not buy a hammer that you otherwise liked just because it said "grip zone" on the handle?

Yes I would, but only if it said "bang zone" or "pound zone" on the head of the hammer. ;):)

All joking aside, it seems like too much hype for some minor improvements. They are trying to sell a product though, so who can fault them?

They should mold half of the gun in hot pink and the other half in zombie green and replace "Grip Zone" with "Internet Warrior."

Nobody is asking anybody to praise it, accept it, or like it. We are simply pointing out the ridiculous tendency of some people who insist on whining about it.

What's funny is it's not the wording Grip Zone that gets me anywhere close to being riled up. Honestly, I think Springfield Armory's marketing department mislabeled their new grip with the words Grip Zone when it should have been something (if anything at all) something that named the grip design instead of a grip area. Call it Posi-Grip, Tacti-Grip, whatever.

The thing that is a low blow to any reasonably knowledgeable shooter is being called an "internet warrior" for questioning a very poor choice of marketing words by Springfield Armory. If Mr. Gresham actually used that in defense of this new pistol, he is just trying to blow off people that know BS when they see BS.

What I do remember about Gresham's radio show, and it's been a looooong time since I've listened to it, was that it was a good show to introduce people that are or were fairly new to the shooting sports.

For me, I think the new SA pistol looks great. If I were in the market for something like that new XD, I'd give it hefty consideration no matter what it says on the grip. If it bothered me later, I'd put grip tape over it.

See, it should have been called "Grip Tape Zone". Sorry.... this entire thing just makes me laugh. On an up note, the grip does look very useful.

Is the phrase Grip Zone more offensive than the phrase Lady Smith? If so, why? One seems to question the user's knowledge while the other seems to question the user's manliness.

I would actually love to find a Lady Smith revolver in 357, they are a great bargain. For some reason priced way beneath their counterpart. Same gun.
Since you asked.
Also my business partner had the Lady Smith 9mm grey pistol which also was a great gun. He is 6 foot 6, and 350lbs, so I don't think the question of his manliness ever came up.

"I'm not sure I understand the question or your reasoning. Why would it be acceptable to have a grip safety on a 1911 but not acceptable on any other design?"

^forgot to click the stupid "quote" box

Yeah, I don't own a 1911 for the same reason...

I too find the "Grip Zone" labeling to be moronic. If I were in the market for such a pistol., it would not prevent me from buying it if I liked the gun otherwise.

The whole grip zone thing doesn't matter to me. I don't like it but it is inconsequential if everything else about the gun is okay. The bore axis just looks extremely high to me. It is kinda crazy because I have an old XD-40 I bought back in 2007 & I consider it to have a high bore axis but the mod 2 or whatever they are calling it looks higher to me. It might be an optical illusion or the angle they took the picture at but I don't think I would care for it.

Hickok45 did a video comparing the mod 2 and an older XD. The bore axis appears to be the same.

I think it appears higher or out of proportion to me because the it is shorter than my old 4" service model. Probably just a matter of perception. I would actually rather have something with a lower bore axis not but the XD works. I have hard time letting go of something that works.

My XDm has a light trigger that is releasing a fully cocked striker. Some here have commented that this system is technically a Single Action (SA if you prefer) trigger system. By contrast, the Uzi I fired had a stiff gritty trigger and a grip safety. Is the Uzi grip safety annoying too?

I never said anything was annoying. I think you have me confused with someone else.

This thread isn't about the Gun at all.....

Its about peoples Misconception of a catchy grip design name as directions!

I will shoot one first then form an opinion. As for CCW it will be hard to improve on the XDS imo.

Ugly? Maybe, but no uglier than a Glock for sure.... And my grandmother always said pretty is as pretty does, so maybe ugly is as ugly does, and when its a pistol.... that might be a good thing....:D

Says a lot about what Springfield seems to be believe their customers wanna see. "let's see just how high we can get the bore axis above your hand". Really makes me appreciate the old Mil spec. pistols.

I have a XD subcompact (not mod2) ulgy but it has never failed to feed or fire. Seems to shoot well for me.
I like it and don't really care what it looks like.
If I was getting a Mod2 the silly labeling would not stop me from buying the gun, my only question is why?

Now if they would just make one with bright red arrows showing which way to point the muzzle in case I forget I would rush out and buy it ASAP.:neener:
