Best movies for gun enthusiasts

A lot of good ones mentioned so far. One of those is Tremors. Actually showcased the local gun-nut in a positive light. Especially when he took out one of those things with his elephant gun. :D

Another would be Miller's Crossing, but I'm a big Coen Bros fan anyway.

One not mentioned so far has a scene that will be in my head as long as I will be able to remember. The scene in To Kill a Mockingbird when Peck's character freaks his kids out dispatches the rabid dog with a single, crack shot. I know a gun can be used for fun (Lordy knows I'm guilty of that), but it's main purpose is gelled in that one scene. To protect you and yours.

So I just re-watched Terminator and here are the guns I took note of: .38 Revolver and Remington 870 that Kyle Reese steals from the LAPD. Later, when the terminator enters the gun store, he asks for the following--"12 gage auto loader, .45 long slide with laser sighting, Uzi 9mm" and of course, a "phased plasma rifle in a 40 watt range." The gun shop has all of them but the plasma rifle. Darnit. It's also interesting to note that the sales guy says the terminator can take everything but the pistol because there is a 15 day wait on those. Where the terminator gets the AK/Galil (as leadcounsel points out) is unknown.

Later in the movie both Reese and the terminator shoot at each other with police 12 gage pump shotguns which, I'm guessing, are supposed to be 870s.

The shootout at the police station shows the police pulling what appears to be M16s from a secured area. This is strange because I don't think police in LA had assualt rifles until the mid 1990s, is this correct, anyone know?

Later in the movie, Reese and Sarah Conner have a revolver of some sort and when the terminator is on his motorcycle, he drops the Galil and pulls out what appears to be a snub nose revolver.

The last scene of the movie where Conner is driving and red Renegade Jeep (love those old Jeeps, she was driving a CJ7 which was slightly larger than the CJ5. I had friends growing up who had CJ7s, great Jeeps, with the 4.0 straight six and a 5 speed) and had a big stainless steel revolver, looks like a .44 magnum or something larger.

Blood Diamond
The Shootist
Battleship

I have to say that in the movie Cloud Atlas, there is a gun fight that takes place, the one in 1970, it only last a few seconds when the cars wreck... The gritty realism of those few seconds trump most other movies I have seen.

You clowns are all wet...
The best western movie showing gun play was with Don Knott in
The Shakiest gun in the west!

Just joking! Be safe all!

I thought the weapons handling in the newest Godzilla movie was exceptional. In general the actions of the US soldiers was really good. Movement and communication was clear and direct with no hesitation. One scence shows an infantryman going to low ready while a bus passes in front of him and then re-engaging. Just before a HALO jump they made a point to show the soldiers "psyching" themselves up. Towards the end the movie shows two squads supporting each other to achieve the primary objective. Lots of good detail stuff.

There's plenty of bad stuff too, such as absurd naval deployment and a multi kiloton warhead going off and apparently only causing mild razor burn to one soldier. Good with the bad I guess.

That sawed off double-barreled shotgun with the shells hanging out of it and the conversation those two clowns have concerning it was a riot.

I just finished that movie yesterday. That was a good scene, good movie all around.

I noticed the tapered casings in the driveby scene. You can almost read the headstamp! I thought it was a 7.62x25 or .357 sig at first, but on closer look it is crimped blanks, you can see one chambering. That discovery was disappointing. Still a cool scene, if not overly gory.

Anyone seen The Interview? Lots of Kalishnakov action and a tank! :D

3000 Miles To Graceland....

A little known action/crime drama; 3000 Miles To Graceland has a well made gun fight/shoot out in the first part of the film.
Actors Kevin Costner & Kurt Russell put a lot into it.
The movie kinda peters out after the big casino heist scene but the end scene gun battle is impressive too.
The casino gun fight might be on Youtube.com or Vimeo.com . :D

I liked it, especially being a Pittsburgher.

The only think I hated was that it had Tom Cruise in it... because as a reader of the books, Jack Reacher needs to be around 6'5" and 240 pounds or something. He needs to be a womanizer, coffee drinker, and slick talker.... normally not the Tom Cruise kinda character.

Thing is, Lee Child (the author of the Reacher books) has this theory that because MPs may sometimes be called on to arrest SEALs, Special Forces, Delta, etc then MPs need to be even more well trained and tougher bad-asses than those elite fighters. :what:

With that kind of silliness as a base, I can't find fault with a movie from deviating from the specific details of Jack Reacher and instead going with a generic retired from the military bad-ass wandering around the US.

There was no mystery gun in the first Terminator, it's even displayed on the poster! It was an AMT Longslide 1911 with a 6" barrel. Was not a Detonics.

The second movie was a different story and featured a couple Detonics pistols. Arnold's gun was a Colt slide and Detonics frame, that looked a lot like a Colt Combat Elite, which it is frequently mistaken for. Linda Hamilton had a custom Detonics used during parts of the movie.

another movie I think back on because of the guns is the first 48 Hours with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte. Nick Nolte's character initially carried what appears to be a .357 Revolver, which is stolen by the criminal Ganz. Later in the movie, Nolte appears to carry a basic 1911. There're other guns throughout the movie, like a snub nose revolver that Murphy's character (Eddie Hamlin?) lifts off a redneck in the redneck bar scene. Great movie, one of my favorites growing up.

The Road. Not because it has a lot of guns...but because it made me feel like I had nowhere NEAR ENOUGH guns. :D

#112...

Again, Lee Child(who is from the UK not the USA) doesn't have a clear picture of what real US Army MPs or CIDC(Criminal Investigators/Special Agents) do.
When I enlisted, my recruiter(a Armor/tanker) told me MPs(males) had to be at least 72" or 6'00" tall.
I saw enlisted MPs and CIDC agents who were 5'06", 5'08" 5'10". ;)
My first company commander in training was the personal security detail officer for the commanding general of SHAPE(NATO HQ). He had a major speech impediment & was only about 5'05" but it was all muscle.
He could easily cross some tier one guy or SF soldier.

Like I posted before, the Jack Reacher character(both book & movie) is complete fiction.

Anything directed or produced by Michael Mann. His works include Heat, Collateral, Miami Vice, Public Enemies, and the Kingdom. All are great gun movies! The Town, Lone Survivor, and Act of Valor were also good, but they are not Michael Mann movies.
