My sister gave me a 25 dollar gift certificate on Amazon for my recent birthday (58 years - oh me). I decided to search for reticle leveling devices that would fit in that price range. I landed this Segway model for $21.99 with no shipping.

It works great. I used it to help with a big scope switcheroo this morning (three rifle/scope combos). It was so user friendly - I further employed it to check all my optically sighted rimfires. I was surprised that I actually had three out of the other half dozen or so that were already acceptable given my past method of simply eyeballin' 'em.

The pic is that of the tool attached to my CZ 452 Varmint.

I cheat. I level the receiver and then line up the vertical cross hair with a plumb-bob.

But i do see the utility of such a device. Especially at a range where I can't walk down at my leisure to hang aforementioned plumb.

C'mon. Stop harshing the OPs mellow. Just because the spirit level can be had for $1.89 at the hardware store doesn't mean the other $20 wasn't well spent [emoji55]

Thanks, RPRNY and Backroad. I made a similar post on another board and one of the respondents wrote:

I have had a older version for several years, and it has leveled numerous scopes, both mine and those of friends. This little puppy is a very handy gadget and is worth several times what I paid for it. Each has their own preference for leveling, but I will stick with my trusted Segway.

It looks pretty neat and seems to have advantages. How do address actions that do not have a flat to rest it across?

Well, I used the top of the rear scope base on my Kimber Hunter and Anschutz 1710 to suffice. They are both round topped. However, I did not try it on a round topped, tip-off grooved .22 like my Winchester 190 or Remington 552. So, we'll have to see later.

Some how I've never got one of these even tho I wanted one. I always used a boat anchor on a rope or a sinker on a line indoors with pretty good results. This would be better however.

What is thie "spirit" level you speak of, RPRNY?

OP, I like that I new it was a CZ rimfire just by looking at the rear of the bolt. Your note explaining it was a 452 Varmint boosted my gun-ego a tad ;)

I've got one of these too and love it. I used to drive myself nuts trying to level the reticle every time I moved or changed a scope... So much so that I really dreaded messing with my scopes. That gadget makes it a piece of cake now.

I use this....

I saw that Arisaka tool and it looked pretty handy. I've always felt like I was off when mounting my scopes in the past so I think I will pick one of those up for my next.

Heres what I do, first mount the scope on there, and eyeball it level. Next tighten down the screws. The next day do this again. Repeat at least five more times until you firmly believe that this is the last darned time that you will look at the crosshairs because by now your wife is getting shifty and mad at how much time you are devoting to this. Next shoot the rifle a total of five times over the next four years and then sell it. Be sure to keep the scope so you can mount it on the next one.
