You gen3 guys clearly have more grip strength than me.
I hope Glock keeps making the slippery gen3s for you guys with the Kung Foo grip.
That's what I said about Gen2 Glock grips as I bought Gen3 Glocks. :D

Years after shooting Gen3 Glocks, I shot a Gen2 Glock and couldn't understand what the problem was with the slick grips as it shot fine in my hands.
For me the gen4 grip texture alone is worth the price of admission.
I say if it feels good in your hands, buy it.

sherman,

I say if you like the way the Gen 4 17 feels and the cost difference isn't too great for you, go for it! I tried an early one at the range once, and I was shooting my Gen 3 that day, and neither I nor the owner of the Gen 4 could tell much of a difference other than the grip texture of the Gen 4 stuck better to the hand.

That said, I just picked up a Gen 4 19 (traded a Gen 3 26). For my small-side of average hands it's a huge difference. The slightly shorter trigger reach, the extra texture and the smaller finger groove spacing feel great. When I grip the pistol there's no doubt it's not going anywhere. I only had time to rip off 65 rounds yesterday but initial impressions are favorable. 100% function, and I'm 99% sure the couple pieces of brass that hit me bounced off the range divider. I'll let you know after 1000 rounds or so if my impressions change.

RTF2 Gen3's texture is the best texture that Glocks ever put out. Gen4 pales in comparison to sticking to your mits.

Rtf-02....

I strongly dislike the Glock RTF-02 design, .
I'm not sure what Glock was really going for but they seemed to back off of it with newer pistols.
My LE trade in Glock 21 gen 04 .45acp did not have the RTF-02 feature. Neither did the larger 41 .45acp model.
The texure had rough, sharp edges that I never cared for. The pistol frame rub against your side or laying against your clothes for hours on end wouldn't be ideal either, .
Some LE sources & CCW cadre say the RTF-02 helps troopers/officers hold onto the pistol with gloves or medical gloves :uhoh: . This to me sounds like only about 1%-2% of the end users that might carry this type Glock.

You just have to toughen up a bit..

As for me, living in Gulf Coast TX, middle of summer pouring buckets of sweat. The gun stays planted no matter what. I could do without the gills, but they made them with normal slide serrations too. They are the only glocks I will ever own again.

I have only Gen4's at this point, and my weekly range beater is a Gen4 G17. It's got a LOT of rounds through it (several tens of thousands so far) and it just flat out works exactly as you'd want and expect.

I find the Gen4 texture and replaceable backstraps to be compelling.

I think Glock's sales staff would disagree, that's why they discontinued it.

They have always been limited runs, like the 17L, etc... course you can get them now if you want to pay the extra for the Vickers models :)

I have a Gen 3 glock 21 and love it,never considered getting the Gen4 as I dont really care for any of the changes they have made, imho.

If you like finger grooves go with the Gen 4.
The surface texture is just right and the grooved no longer feel like a hinderance to obtaining a proper grip on the gun.

Gen 4s are priced a bit higher than Gen 3s but also come with a third magazine.

IMHO, there is no such thing as a bad Glock 21, regardless of the "Gen" but my Gen4 is one of the best, and a favorite, in the menagerie. The Gen4 changes, namely the dual recoil spring assy. and the modular backstraps, work well for me.

Oh I don't think the Gen 4's are bad,I just think that their was nothing wrong with the 3's to warrant a change.YMMV and all that.

I feel the same way about the Glock 17 that you do about the 21, my 6 year old Gen3 17 has been solid for me through thousands of rounds, and I have no plans to replace it with the Gen4, and I agree 100% that "YMMV"

My 17 Gen 4 has eaten several thousand cheap plated reloads, cant ever recall a misfire. If you really want to treat yourself visit www.theglockstore and order a 3.5lb trigger disconnect and a comp spring kit. You will find installation instructions on their site, nothing too it! Huge improvement!
