When I was a kid, my brother poked me in the arm with a toothpick. I've been waiting for them to ban toothpicks ever since.

It would be easier if the govt took away all utensils and issued each citizen one dull spork.
The UK pretty much has done that. Still does not stop crime (but it does control the populace.)

And that is what it is all about.

Anyone with a grindstone and scrap metal can make a knife, machete, or sword.

They know that but it makes them look like they are doing something while adding to the list of weapons they take from the population.

machetes aren't all that dealing with heavier woody brush, saplings, and trees

They do serve their purpose even in the mid-latitude coniferous forests regions. I manage to find work for mine in the hardwood forests of Ohio too. I can slice off a 3/4 sapling with one stroke with a machete. They're great for clearing trails and the like.

It must be nice to live in a city where all your food grows in a grocery store and there are no fences around the meat department. It's not like that where I live. I used my machete to trim a small tree just last fall. They do have their uses but not in the world of our concrete jungle friends.

There's little doubt the machetes that guy is holding could be very effective weapons. But so can feet and fists. I guess they'll want to tie us all up before long.

Nothing surprises me from NY. I have family still living there, and my guess is that some of my relatives and saying what a great idea this is. Next I expect that self defense, in all its forms, will be made illegal in NY. The only thing you will be allowed to do is call 911 and ask the criminal to be patient while you both wait. (In the UK acts of self defense are essentially outlawed. Numerous cases have made it into the American press of people defending themselves from home invaders and being arrested as well as sued by the families of those invaders for the injuries inflicted on the criminal.

I still live in NY, for a variety of reasons -- job, aged parents, deep roots, etc. -- and I cringe every time I read stuff like this. I've even heard this defended with idiocies like "Who needs to clear brush in cities anyway," ignoring the fact that this idiot is proposing a statewide ban.

Albert Einstein quoted, "Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result."

They never change their insane lack of reason. Always focusing on the tool not the person behind it. :banghead:

The UK has gone wacky IMO. They have so many rules they already live in prison. I don't know why it would be worse to go to one of their prisons. Then I'd be a victim and have all sorts of protections from the mean old guards.

This sure goes to show us that there's no end to do gooders. No matter what they get they will always want more. They make their careers on it. They get voted in by other do gooders. I'm all for doing the right thing but come on - when you can't defend yourself who's the one doing the wrong thing?

. because murders committed with machetes are so common in the United States ...

I would imagine more folks have been killed in the US by hammers, pieces of pipe, screwdrivers, and baseball bats. Maybe he's thinking it looks too close to the beheading tools ISIS uses when they're not burning folks alive..............

Read up on what England has done.
Pretty much, any kitchen knife that is sharper than a butter knife has been regulated/outlawed.

At one time, England was the most powerful nation in the world. Now they are afraid of their own shadow.

I fear we are headed down the same path.

You can't argue with an idiot. He sort of reminds me of all the rest of the Dem's, they posses exactly NO COMMON SENSE!! Let's ban idiots shall we??

If they can get away with making it illegal to hurt someones feelings with whatever they regard as "hate speech" du jour, this shouldn't even raise an eye brow.

if they band them , all you folks in NY should run out and by sickles 16478715.jpg

that should make them crap there paints  then stock up on pitchforks

Reason for trying to ban. Woman son killed by one. Then another person injured by one in different attack. The 2nd attack guy had it concealed in a umbrella  Both attacks in Queens . So now must ban .

Streets ran red in 1950's be cause a knife had a spring and a button. Any excuse to ban .
