I had an opportunity to pick up this gun the other day and couldn't pass up the deal. I've always been curious about the CZs. I've heard some of you guys really like them, and this one just fits my hand so perfectly I said, "I want it" and it followed me home. This one (CZ 75D PCR) has a de-cocker and no safety. It is precisely the same as the CZ 75 P-01, the difference being there is no rail on this gun, and it has low-profiles sights and a loaded chamber indicator. The finish is quite nice - CZ calls it a "poly-coat". It appears to be some kind of sprayed on, baked finish. It's quite nice. The inner workings of the gun look like pretty nice quality, especially for the moderate price they get for them. Sights are low profile white dot... with kind of lame white dots. They're not particularly bright. Grips are pretty soft rubber (nice feel), and I have a set of nice cocobolo grip on order.
The picture below is exactly how it comes, in a standard plastic box, 2 magazines, brush and plastic cleaning rod. Manual too, of course, and a computer generated test target that shows how it test fired.
The target was the first 20 rounds out of the gun. I was just test firing it, 10 rounds out of each magazine to make sure everything functioned correctly. I was not bullseye shooting! Distance was roughly 25 feet. I took it to the range yesterday and put another 60 rounds through it with no malfunctions whatsoever.
The recoil spring is a flat spring and there's no other buffer of any kind. Recoil is about as expected for a 9mm. The gun feels nice and tight when firing. The trigger is average. It's fairly light in single action with a bit of travel before the break. It's a smooth travel though, and not objectionable to me. I didn't fire it double-action. The slide seems nicely fitted to the alloy frame. The receiver, slide and barrel are all stamped with the serial number, so the slides may be fitted individually, I don't know.
The size comparison... it is almost identical to the H&K USP Compact, with the slide itself being a bit slimmer of course. Other dimensions are very close, as is the weight. When I held them both at the same time with no magazine inserted, it seemed to me that the CZ was slightly lighter than the H&K. It's close though.
So far, so good. It shoots well, I like it, and it seems reliable with the small amount I've shot to date. For a gun that's about half the cost of a nice 1911, it seems to be a nice bargain for something that will work well as a carry gun.
Pics: (the goobers on the gun are oil smears)
